these records are statistically correct, I do not pretend to say, but I do say that they are by a considerable percentage, within the actual ber of lies.Tho return was given over a period of forty days, ending the 34th of September, 1882, and so far as | am conoerned, is not for the present, at least, intendod to be tinued C d to some extent as a matter of curiosity, the feeling grew that thote records should be a permavont work, and that details of a certain class of deaths should and ought to be had under à system of Govern- mont control ; these should inclnde deaths by drowning, by rail, distinguishing between employees and outsiders, by suicide, and by other causes to be determined on by competent authorities.Of those, the water and the rail aro the most im t, and I propose to show 65th October, 1882.The Price of Bread. To the Editor of THE Stax : Sin,— After having had a harvest for tho past few months, since the price of flour began to drop, while the poor man’s loaf was kept at famine prices, the bakers have condescended to reduce their charge for the staff of life by ten per cent. This, 1 presume, must be accepted as a boon at their hands, for which we should be thankfal. This reduction is mot, bowever, at all commensurate with the fall in the price of flour, nor with its present or prospective value. If the bakers do not voluntarily still farther reduce their prices, the public will be forced in self-defence to unite in establishing a co-operative bakery those who now monopolize the supply of the most necessary of all articlos of food.© question is one of general interest, and apart from its present necessity, it would for all time, be a blessing to the community. If co-operation be at all advantageous, there in nobraneh of business where its advantages would be so wide-spread or beneficial ; it would telllupon the contents of the pocket of the poor as well as the rich. One of the interested parties Jately interviewed says the extra and other fours (except the patent aud strong Canadiæn bakers’) cannot be used for baking the six pound loaf.uestion this statement. What bécomes of the hundreds of thousands of barrels and bags of the various grades brought to this market, if they be not used by the bakers?Again, another baker trios to throw cold water “pon the threatened co-operative bakery, by telling that some forty years ago, one was established but failed.About that time, owing to what was considered extortion by the then of the city, an.establishment was started, in a small way, called a public bakery.1 do not recollect exactly how it was ma , but I believe it was in the hands of parties who were ignorant of the business, and, as might be expected, did not sucoeed. There is no reason why a co-operative concern, with a safficient®capital, conducted by business men, on the cash system, should not be successful, both in keeping within reasonable bounds the price and quality of bread, and in paying a fair dividend to shareholders.I venture to express the opinion that it would be emineatly popular and successful. The details would be simple, the only difficulty would be the selection of competent and experienced men to work it.In the hope that this public oxpression of my individual views on a most important question may arouse the community to notion in the matter, Pro Boxo.I am, Oct 8 1882.The Canadinn Pacific Passenger Depot. To the Editor of TEE Brak: Sræ,—It is important that the station in question should bo placed in tho best place for the convenience of travellers, not only in the present but aiso in the future, and nothing shouid be left unsaid or undone to secure this result. There is only one opinion, that it is desirable to keep the Champ do Mars for a parade ground and à public 3quare, so that if the reasonable wishes of the Railway Company and the ‘convenience of the public can be met without invading it, it ought to be held inviolate.Bul it is not every day that Montreal has the opportunity of entering * upon negotiations involving such great issues as those with the Canadian Pavifo Bailway, sad it should be seen that every reasonable facility is given to the enterprise. If it is a condition of the Company's coneentrating their offices and workshops within the city limits, that they must have a part ef the Champ de , Mars, then the public will probably say give it to them.Sentiment has to give way to utility in this commercial age.A ce at the lio of the land shows that sacrifioos of other old landmarks will have to be made as woll as of the Champ de Mars.It is announced that the venerable Bonse- cours Church will have th (egme down to make room for the freight shod) the company.Itis clear that the old Presbyterian Church on St Gabriel street ought to be removed as well.If the suggestion is carried out to introduce St Jumos streat into the Champ de Mars as the main entrance to the new depos (rom the eommercia] part of the eity, this involves the demolition of the charch in question. But, apart from this pian, the old building is somewhst of an.eyesors, standing out as it does several feet on the line of Bt.James street. It wasa mistake that it was not taken down years ago by the Corporation when the: improvements in Little St James street were effected.Indeed, it is a 0 that ail the buildings to Notte Dame street w.not at that time removed, completing the Cort House Square. It was part of the plan of both ex-Alderinan David, when bo was Chairman of the Road Committee of the Council and of ex- Alderman Stephens to takeaway the Prerbyterian church at least, and make a carriage drive on the north side of the Court House and City Hall above the Champ de Mars steps to Gosford street. This ought to be done now, oven if the Champ de Mars is to be preserved entire. The commission- ors Lo investigate the Court House appointed by successive I Provincial Governments recommended the acquisition of Shurch property the Governmeat, owing to its isolation and ne to the Court House, for the rite of a new Registry office, If the Government, which is understood to have its aye on that property, should acquire it, the jog in the street will be perpetiated be- youd hope of remedy. The city should now step and forestall any other parchaser, for it is to be presumed that the congregation will with, tbe building fer a fair price determined om is, however, said to be must intercsting by all those who havo got up st that hour, and to bo worth tho sacrifice of a littlo sleep. It was ially brilliant on tho mornings of Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, when the air was beautifully olear near the eastorn horizon, where the wonder is to bo seen.Ail tho sightseer bas to do, is to choose a clear morning (take good observations bofore going to bed), get-up about four o'clock, got on a housetop or out to somo clear space where the eastern horizon can be pretty woll seen, and thea lock a short distanca south of the point of sunrise iow down on tho horizon. The disk, or nueleus, of the comet is very small but very brilliant to the naked oye.To the strong tolescope, as has been stated in our telegrams, it was divisible yesterday into three sections, or heads. These to-day, it is said, are rouniting.Tho tail is moderately fan-like, very long and vory bright. It has been computed to be at loast fifteen degrees long, and would reach botween the two most oxtremo stars of the haudie of the Great Dipper, that is about 50,000,000 miles, more than half the distance from the earth to the sun.“It rises,’ says Prof.Parkhurst, of Brooklyn, “ ive minutes earlior evory morning, but gradually further south, in ap ce passing as it is noarly westward through the constelia- tion Hydra.” From observations at the Naval Observatory, Washington, on Thursday morning, the tail was calculated to bs 17 or 18 degreos long tho nucleus somewhat longer than on previous mornings and slightly more spread out, with a small central “condensation sbout three- quarters of its length from tho ond noarcst the tail.Tho tail points away from us aod consequently the comet does not look s0 large as if it pointed this way.8 MOTION, Says Prof.Parkhurst : * The head was as bright as Sirius when I saw it first, and I thought the tail would lengthen until it reached Alphard.Bat it has not come more than a million miles noaret to us than the sun.It came up {rom beyond the sun, you see, passed it, and thea passed back again. It is fast receding, probebly at a rate of two and à half million miles a day.But this rate will gradually bo losseued. At the presont time it is about seventy million miles from the run and one hundred and twenty million miles from us It has net been very near the earth.Donati's comet came three times as near.Bat it is a remarkable thing that on 18th, 19th and 20th of September, I sould see this comot at noonday with my telescope right through a considerable veil of mist, but now the telesco fails to bring it out in daylight, even while the sun is below the horison.% will nover bo seen before midnight Every day after this it will be visible in ita present place five minutes earlicr. The sun is travelling eastward about ono degree a day, and the comet is moving westward a little less than a degree. They are moving in o ite directions, and while the comot rises earlier the ean rises later. So, although the brightness of omr phenomenon is decreasing, yet when we soe it against » perfectly black sky, as we soon shall, it will be viewed to more advantage than at present. The moon is on the wane, too, and when her light is lessened, the sky will be in splendid oondition for a view of the comet.I should advise overy one who wishes to sco this marvel of our planetary systom to rise at four o’clock in the moming and watch in the southeastern sky for it.They will have a good honr’s look at it bofore it pales. It is woil worth any man’s or woman's while to get telescope, and the comet of 1843 ought not to return for centuries.I suspect that this comet, together with that of 1843 and 1880, belongs to a group revolving around tho sun. They are all tn the samo orbit, and there may be many more which cannot be secn in the night time. The most plausible thoory of their constitution is that they are portions of somo great nobulous or cloudy mass which floats in space. This mass is sap- posed to have besn separated by various forces and the fragmoots ually draws into the orbits of suns around which thoy revolve as satellites.” THW CONEY INCANDRSCEXY.* On Satarday morning last,” says Prof.Park- hurst, “ the head of the comet appoared as bright as Sirios. On Wednesday morning, after the lspso of only four days, while the tail remained of about the samo length, brightness aad general appearance, the hoad of the comet bad diminished to the brightness of Alphard, the second magnitude star toward which the tail.pointed and nearly reached.Aocording to the determination, of 8ir Jobn Hersshel,Birius is thirty timee as bright as Alphard.According to computation the reflected light of the comet was, Wednesday morning two-thirds that on Saetarday last.It follows that nineteen-twentieths of the light on Saturday was caused by incandescenoe. If we could as sume that all the light this morning was roflect- ed sunlight it would be easy to prediot with tal- erable accuracy the brightness dariog ite visibility. That would make the comet visible to the naked oye, although at last x0 faint ns scarnoly to be discernible evon as a star uniii the end of Novembez, when it would be 20 low in the south a te be seen with diffienity. But if, ae is not improbable, the comet has not yot sa cooled down as to entirely cease to be incandescent, it will disappear to the naked aye much sooner, although it may be easily followed in the tel for that time, It is not probable that the tail contirues te be incand ; it thorsfore p es its brightness without that diminution; but as it reoedos irom the sun, tho light wpon it is less brilliant, and there is an added element of un- eeriainty from the unknown amount of cxpan- sion of the anbstanoo of the tail, which would still (urthor diminish its luminosity. Were it not for theso two causes, tho tail, whiie growing amslleres it recedes, would remain of the same brightness, giving ba shot from the first of September, but idge not until tho 16th of September, This is sumething of an anomaly and gives rise to many unintontional iufrucijoms of the law.- Weodoook and partridge are generally found in the same ouvors, and whon tbe dogs raiso à bird there is no time to euquire ‘‘Aro you a woodoock or partridge ?”” for if the sportsman wants his bird be must ire at once.In this way unintentional mistakes are made, and in onder to avoid this the law should be altered to allow partridge shooting to be legal on the first of Septomber. There is nothing to prevent this, as by time all birds and animals have arrived at maturity. It is often said that the sportsman becomes wholly indifferent to feelings of humanity, that he likes to kill for the mere sake of killing. But this is nottrue of the genuine lover of the gun, be likes to havo a little excitement and work attached to the sport, and not have indiscriminate slaughter which some care to indulge in.A Montreal gentleman, ardont in the obaso, gests a most humane alteration in the law wit respoot to deer hunting. As the law now stands, elk, oarlbou, deer and their fawn may be hunted between the first of September and January 81st.In Winter time, especially when the snow is very deop, à hunter on snowshoes can casily overtake deor and fell then with a club. The femaies beginning to bo hoavy with young are worse off than the males, and more at the mercy of the banter. But butchering in this manner is not sport, and it is suggested that no deer hunting be allowed in January, or better still make the close soanon commenco alter the 16th of December, as in Ontario. The Act of last session passed by the Provincial Governmont contained some very judicious provisions, tor instanos the prevention of deck shooting in the 8prigg.The close sosson extends between the 15th April and 1st of Beptember, and last Spring being a laté one, the ducks did not arrive until the close season commeonced, couso- quently this Fall they are very numerous. This will always be the case, as the law now stands, because shooting in tho Spring not being allowed there will be plenty of chance lor them to breed, as any molestation of them would be followed by Government prosecution. There are rumors that night shooting of ducks is being largely indulged in all over the Provines, and as this is contrary to the law, sportsmen had better tako warning.Tho Fish and Game Protoction Club are going in for a vigorous enforcemont of the law, and quite recently obtained four convictions at Sorel, and about thirty convictions for transgressiens of the law during this Summer.A man has been stationed by the club at Dundoe, on Lake St.Francis, pending the appointment of an agent by the Government, and next year the olub hopes to be able to keep two or three men on the watch for transgressors. There is some talk about sowing wild rice in the marshes at Sorel, St.Regis, the Ottawa, and other places. An expenditure of $300 or $400 would mcet this, aud as it would be the means of supplying a continuous amount of food for wild ducks there should be no difffeulty in raising the sum from enthusiastic s on.Year after year crowds of crack shots visit this Provinoe for sport, and a knowledge of a recent eban in the law is necessary, parti- cola: among American and sportsmen from Ontario. The law strictly says that “ In future, no person who Âas no domicile in the Province of ean, at any time, hunt, within the meaning of this Act without being authorised therein by a license to that effect.Sach permit may upon payment of a fee of $20, bo granted by the Commissioner of Crown to any person not domiciled in the Province who applies to him therefor, and shall be valid for tha whole of one season’s shooting. It must be countorsigned by the Game Saporintendent.” The lowest penalty for breaking this law is $40.To many at first sight this provision may r a hardship, but pr a little reflection ih wil be seen thot the Govornment is quite right in lorying the amount, for thoy bave to see that the e is protected, and if indiseriminate slaughtering were allowed, there would be little inducement for sportsmen to visit the province.Still there are many who assert that game protection as it is today is a byword and a reproach toall. They say there is not one man out of tea thousand who deliberatoly or ignorantly infringes the game laws that is brought up and made to pay the penalty of his misconduct.Uniil country squires are bred with thickep blood in their veins {and stiffer spines, the great majority of appeals to them will cod in a farce.A Svar reporter was told receatly that a person eoutered a huntin and fishing-tackle shop in Montreal this year asked for a an ad- miuistrator of the law secs the exampie of breaking that which he above all others should be the first to kce And if he thus breaks the law, how can it expected that his inferiors will Keep it.Ii is to hopod that thisis coly an isolated ease, and that every endeavor will be made in the raral districts to sbe that game is protected during the close season. As already observed, September 1st is genorally the opening day of the season, butin this connection it may be montioned that a few animals, such as the beaver, mink, hare, otter, marten, pekan wild cat may not be hunted until the fairly to the knowledge of the worid—Alexander the Great overthrew the dominations of the Persan, and selected the site of the capital of his Kryptian province.Events have borne magnificent testimony to the wisdom of the choice.Time has greatly altered the cal features of ancisut Alexandria, but in its founder's , a now, it afforded a safe and deep harbor —the only one along that seaboard —for the trade centred on the Nile. The old city oosupied mearly the breadth of the isthmus betwesn Lake Mareotis and the Mediterranean. The immediate neighborhood consists, and has always consisted, bare sandhills and calcareous rock, incapable of profitable cultivation.Alexandria, however, can draw for bread on the rich Delta lauds behind, snd the healthful sea breezes make amends for the bare and the lack of shade. The Alexandria of the Ptolemies and of the Roman Emperors, built after the plau of Dinocrates, extended for miles along the Mediterranean shove. It was bisected by a great thoroughfare, 200 fod in breadth, running north and south from the ** Gate of the Moon to the *Gateof the Sun,” and crossed at right angles by another of equal width.Along these streets ran lines of colonnades end many specious public and private buildings. It was divided into three ‘quarters,’ scta for the three nationalities formed the of the population, The Jews oucupied the eastern ivision ; the Egyptians the West, on the aite of the ald town of Rhacotis, where stood the great temple of Serapis; while the central aro- tion—tha Brucheion—in which almost all that was splendid and stately in Alaxandris was collected, was the residence of the Greeks.DAY OCTOBER 1 with European cities: of the seme rank ; while side by side was the contrast of the squalor of the nawow Janes ocosapied by the Arab aad other native > The Mah.moudich Canal, uniting Alexandria with the Nile, made it the direct outlet tor the riches ot the Delta; by the construction of the railway Jines to Cairo and Suez it became- the railway station of the overland route to the East.Ths Suez Canal has undoubtedly diverted a portion of the trade, but this has been more than compensated for by the impetus given by that work to the general prosperity of t.Vast sums have been spent on the water and gas works, in deepening and ing the harbor and its approaches, and building new quays and wharves. The outer breakwater running south from Ennostos Point encloses mare than 1,400 acres, with a depth of 30 feet or over.Within the inner mole there are 177 with a depth of 28 or more feet. From a Blue x that was issned last woek, it appears that the'value of the exports from Alexandria in 1881 amounted to £13,684,630, and the imports to '£7,110,368.Two-thirds of the export and more than half of , the import business was done with Great Britain, Half the crying capacity of the vessels employed during the year in carrying trade of The port was British owned. The value of cotton and cotton seed exported was £10,657,- 000, of which .£6,966,000 worth was taken by this country. This was the condition of Alexandria, until the greed and ambition of a military faction spoiled the fair pi ; bat doubt- lesa, when the untoward influences from which it is temporarily suffering are removed, the flood tide of prosperity will again return.— The Scotsman, The Unitarinm Congress at Saratoga."If Methodism may justly be called the established church of America, the Unitarian body, to which special attention is just now being called by the session of its conference at Sarato- g% may well claim t be the sanctuary of American culture.Unitarianism has a remarkable history. It begins with the brilliant beretie Arius in the fourth century, whose teaching won whatever of intellectual movement continued unstified by the constant narrowing of the church’s creeds. When Arius was poisoned, as is thought probable, by the orthodox, his doctrine made itself felt in sue- cessive waves of revolt, the prelude and prophecy of the coming reformation. The most thoroughgoing of the reformers was a unitarian, Socinus. But he waa still more the apostie of culture than of theological change. He belonged to the little band of scholars who inaugurated the new birth of classical letters beneath the stately dome which the genius of Lorenzo de Medici had reared beside the Arno.ln England unitarianiem began as a feeble sect, perse- cated by the episcopal church.Though not connected with any sectarian organisation, John Milton held distinctly unitarian doctrines.Priestly, William Godwin, and his celebrated wife, Mary Wolstonecraft, the first asserter of woman’s righta, abd mother of Mary Wolstonecrait Sheliy, belone to the unitarian roll of honor in England. But in America Unitarianisæ may be said to have almost mon olized the literary and philosophical culture of the age, Bryant, Longfellow and Kwerson were unitariana Oliver Wendell Holmes is a unitarian.Boston is the Mecca and Jerusalem of uvitarianism. No Christian church is more remarkable for good work of à practical kind— Torento Worid.A Shark (aught by a Clam, Among the discoveties recently made in the great Dead Sea of the West were some gigantic oyster shells mors than six feet long, each pair of which once contained sn animal that the average boy could not lift.To-day the only really large shellfish is of the clam family. It is mamed tridaena gigas, a contemporary tells us, and is found in the Pacific ocean, the length of his Hfe being 60 or 70 years. It grows embedded in the coral, and is fastened to the rocks by a cord called byssus, which is so tough that it can be cut only with an ax.The shells themselves are six feet lang, each valve weighing more than 250 nds, when the antmal part often weigha y or forty pounds. When alive the ‘triadacna lies with its great valves ajar, capturing any food that may pass within its scalloped edges.| A shark was once caught in this way.Swimming along in search of food, he unwarily pessed in” the door of the great clam’s house, his tail rudely striking the animal.Like a flash the tremendous jaws snapped togetber, squeezing the man-cater as if he were in à vise, and rendering him utterly werloss. As the tide went down the shark’s oad above water, dashing about and churning the sea.The hubbub attracted the attention of some natives, who soon captured both shark and clam. One of the most interesting exhibits at the recent Provincial Exhibition here, which we overlooked noticing at the time, wax the fine display of surgical Instruments, artificial limbs, trusses of all descriptions, supporters, electric apperatus, gymnastic accessories, such as fencing foils, boxing gloves Indian clubs, &e., all manufactured by Mr.F.Gross, of 688 and 690 Oraig street, of this city.A great attraction to visitors was the invalid'g chair, the ease by which it was worked and the comfort experienced in using it, were favorably commented ob, The invalid bedstead was much admired. The bedstead contains various appliances for raising and altering the position of the patient, and alleviates suffering to a t degree.Mr.Gross was aw seven first prizes, besides which three other of his exhibits were highly commended. The prizes were foe invalid chair and patent bedstead, collection of yeterinary surgeon's instruments, collection of surgica instruthents, assortment of trusses and orthope.die liances, assortment of artificial lim collection of bandages and surgeon's appliances, snd gymnastic lances.Me.Gross dbssrves great credit for the honorable position he hos taken for the manufacture of scientific the qualit, it is evident from theawards made, being of avery superior the Case—The Recovery Donbtiui, The oases mentioned yesterday a young man who voluntarily abstained from food for over a month isa most singular one.The leman’s name is Charles Fallon, of No.90 urocher street, most res ly connected, and who bas been empl aa bookkeoper with Mears.Lord & Munn.A 57am reporter called this morning st his residence and ined some farther particulars.Mrs.Fallon, the mother of the young man, was first soon, but she, oa hearing what was required, retired noisclossly. An impressive stillness reigned throughout tho house, and it ssemed exactly tho atmosphere where religious enthusiasm would In a shoet time a healthy looking young man , who stated that he was the brother of Fallon. At first he soomed disinclined to enter into partioulars, bat finally gave the following sscount. It appears that about five weeks ago Mrs, Fallon noticed that her sos was not eating as wzual at meals; some two or three daye must have pazsed bafere this abstinence was noticed.Bhe questioned him on tho subject, and was as- teunded by his answering her that he had reccived a Pevelation trem God commanding him to abstain from food. The exact manner in which he had received this injunction, whether by a» vision or inspiration, he seemed unwilling or unable to relate. The mother, a lady of a highly religious turn of mind herself, was in hopes tho hallu- oination would wear off in a short time.Such, however, was not tho case, for in spits of porsuazions, ontroaties aod argumients he persisted in his abstinence from food. When reasoned with on tho wicked- mess of suicide, ho answored that he had ne intention of killing himself, that God, whe had supported him so far, would continue to do so.In this strait, tho sorviees of Dr.Hingston were called in requisition. To that gonsleusan he stated that a cloud had arisen betwecn God and himself, which could only be dispelled by fasting, and that when the cloud disappeared he weuld take nourishment, but not until then. The physician advised his parent not to forco food upon him, but to allow the delusion to wear off, as he was of the opinion that the eravieg of hunger world in the end prove too strong for the patient’s resolution.Dr.Howard, who 4 an expert in mental diseases, was called in to consult upon the case, and was in favor of compelling the patient to take nourishment, but this plan did not meot the wishes of the family.Mr.Fallon’s brother, who was out of tewn at the time, was to return, aud on bis ar rival endeavored to break bis brothers resolution, but in vain.During this time the young man bohaved much the same as wsual, conversing readily and rationally upon any sab- jeot outside of his delusion.is he carefully avoided, and when pressed upon the matter had only one answer to give, namely that ho had been commanded by God to-do ashe was doing: He, also, went out occasionally for a walk, though he prelerred remaining in tho houses. The only thing that passed his lips was water, which he drank at intervals.Asa matter of course, he began to fall off alarmingly in flesh, and after passing about twenty-five days without food was obliged to take to his bed.About this time, the Very Rev.Dean Baldwin, who had been out of town, and who was a warm nal friend, visited him at his bedside. The invalid was glad to see him, and eonversed freely on all subjects, praying with the reverend gentleman most devoutly.Dean Baldwin ressoned with him on the sin and iolly of his conduct, but without avail. He refused persiztently to depart from his purpose.Baffled, but not despairing, the clergyman continued his ministrasions, spending all his spare time at the bedside of the unfortunate man.It was owing to his reasoning and persuasions.the family firmly believe, that the Ba lucination finally passed away.At length, on Friday, the 29th instant, after crois thirty three days of total Ahetention from food, Mr.Fallon, quietly signified his intention of of some nourishment.Owing te the we viata I the stomach after such a Jong fast, on the advice of Dr., pure milk in small quantities was the only thing given him.Since then, he has centinaed to take milk, no other nourishment having llosñ offered him.He is still very weak, being hardly able to move in bed, and it is doubtful ‘whether he will recover. He has become frightfully emaciated as a matter ef course, being re- duoed to skin and bones. The family can in ne on of him, he being apparently in good Cat and Dot 9 + paribaliiy moron he perament.DR.HINGETON'S VIEWS.Dr.H when questioned about the case, said that he had not taken auy notes about it, he had considered that either the craving for food would prove too [strong foi hallucination, and the patient would eat, er that the delusion would prove the stron, be would die.Dr.Ho ho said, recommended the use of the stomach pump to forcibly inject fluid food into the stomach of the patient, as such an operation could only be successfully esnducted in the hospital, the relatives had objected te his removal.Mr.Fallon had said all along that he did not contemplate suicide, and that would go through the trial all right. He also declared that there was a eloud between God and him that only fasting would clear away. The patient lost a great quantity of flesh, and beBame blue and cold at the Jextremitiss. He could not say what would be the result of the case, he understood that the patient was now troubled with a bad oough.Dr.Hingston farther said that he had never in the course of his practice met with a similar case, and though they might have cocurred in the asylums, he did not think the extent of the fast would befeand to have been so long.Mr, Fallon had admitted several times that he was hungry, but his resolution was ap- arently stronger than the desire to eat.Taking t altogether, it was a most sin case.Dean Baldwin, in ¢onversation with a reporter, recounted the ease v much as it has been given above. He said dhe steadfastness of Fallon in his belief was wonderfal. He believed that severe demestic afliction weighed very heavily upon Fallon, and induced mn settled melancholy that may have had the result of leading his mind into such an hallucination. He eould not account for it in any other way, the surprising part of the whole affair being that on was able te survive thirty-three days without having taken an ounce of solid food, and that his stomach was able to reswme its funetions of nourishin, the nearl famished body.He had grown so thin that elothes hung u him, and his shirt looked many sizee too tare for hiss 8 of and The Baptist Union of Canada. The following is the proposed Constitation to be discussed at the féethooming
