social or industrial rut.untouched bv the healthful breeze of different thoughts and convictions. While people continue to move to our community, it will remain a pleasant one in which to live, work and stay.It is well known that manv compantes do murh far the nen- nle of their cities. The textile industry is no eveention. For example.the Montreal Cottons |! built streets and streets of houses for emnlovees.as well ae a elub that offers such entartain- : ments as tennis enring and avn howling.Everv vear the Cottons awards a nrize to a member of the Gault Institute graduating class to help this person to further his or her education. It is acts such as these that render an industry particularly valuable to a city. They are investing in todays youth which will be running their companies tomorrow. In regard to the products of the textile mills.these are made in Canada by Canadian people. This is important in view o° the fact that foreign produets are flooding the markets.Canadian goods, wh'le being just as well made, provide work for Canadian people and so should be given preference. Also, the manufacture of textile products in a city by no means goes unnoticed.-It gives that municipality a name - a good name if the products are of high quality; a poor name if the products ire of low quality. It is significant that Valleyfield is favourably known for her textile output.- Thus, the beneficial influences of the textile industry are very much in evidence in the everyday life of our community.Without textiles, our lives would be very different.the Annual Canadian Legion Curling Bonspiel was held in dowick.Valleyfield Branch was .epresented by: Chap.Laroche, Lead - Navy Mare, Delisle 2nd - Air Force Larry Soly 3rd - Army Sam Butt Skin - Navy Thus the 3 branches of the service were represented. The above team eliminated three consecutive clubs and won the MecG:egor Trophy, the emblem for the District Curling.1st game, V'field 7 - Ormstown 6 2nd, V'field 9 - Caughnawaga 1 3rd, V'field 7 - Châteauguay 6 This last game was played with an extra end, and a remarkable shot was played by the skip Sam Butt with his last rock, which won the game for the Valleyfield branch. The Valleyfield team will represent our City in the Provincial play-down in Lachute, Que.for the Provincial trophy.Meals sent out on any order 109 ALEXANDER ST.On Saturday, January 2lst,- V'FIELD LEGION TEAM WINS DISTRICT CURLING TROPHY AT HOWICK The Winners will represent the Province of Quebec in thé British Columb:a Canadian Legion Championship Tournament.Best of Luck to our Legion Curlers.SCOUTS .(From page 2) who attended agree that it was a day well spent, They gained more knowledge on Leadership, and hope to apply same in their own Troop Meetings.Classified Ad Rates 70 CENTS FOR 15 WORDS OR LESS.4 CENTS FOR EACH ADDITIONAL WORD.HALF PRICE FOR REPEAT OF EACH ADVERTISEMENT.LE FRICOT BAR-B-Q.RESTAURANT (FR.34627) ) WELL KNOWN FOR ITS GOOD FOOD — The customer paye Taxi fare BELLERIVE-VALLBYFIELD | 103 ,Alexandre YOUR FAMILY SHOE STORE J.PAUL CHATEL 53 St Laurent - Beauharnois 199 Victoria - Valleyfield PAGE 6 ’ THE ST.LAWRENCE SUN Wednesday, February 1, 1061 BIG TEN (WOMEN) Yankees 16, Women: Rivest 138 Miss L.Derepentigny 124 Reds 14| Mrs.Fortin 183 Langlois 129 Bow in cores: Mrs.C.McSween 121 | Cardinals 14 Mrs.Bourget 163 E.Pilon 136 Miss M.Willis 120 Rams - 12| Mrs.Langlois 189 J.M, Viau 126 *|Mrs.R.Chiasson 117 Alouettes 10 Men: W.Bourget : 125 MOCO BOWLING LEAGUE |Mrs.B.Searle M7 Braves 8 E Rivest 205 SN HERE LEAGUE .uc ! HEIGHTS CLUB — ACTIVITIES - On Wednesday January 25, the Heights Recreation Club convened an organizational meeting, to prepare plans for the coming season.Mr.Frank Manherz, the Chairman for 1961 told us.that the C'ub was intending to set up a whole new set of activities for this year.We have now a Toast- masters Club, a bridge club, anhim Many Happy Returns.'
