Chemical PI The McArthur Chemical Company Limited, a subsidiary of the Shawinigar Chemical Company, has purchased a major portion of the former Merck company property on Dufferin Road in Valleyfield.At a press conference in his office on Friday afternoon of last week the \u201cIndustrial \u201d\u2019 Mayor of Valleyfield, Robert Cauchon announced that the McArthur Chemical Company Limited had purchased 11 of the 12 existing buildings on the former Merck property, which since last week had become part of Valleyfield\u2019s Industrial Park area, for the sum of $275,000.Mr.Cauchon told members of the press that the new plant will specialize in the manufacture of industrial chemical products, finished products and animal feed.According to the Mayor work on renovating the buildings will be starting very shortly and plans call for the plant to be in produe- tion within a few months.When running on full capacity the plant will give employment to some 300 people.The mayor said the city had received a down- payment of $50,000 from the McArthur Chemical Company.The balance NOUVELLE IND would be paid with the signing of the sales contracts in about a month\u2019s time.Representing the city wasMr.Cauchon while Mr.Norman F.Chappell represented the McArthur Chemical Company.Mr.Chappellis vice-preside nt and general manager of the ant company.The McArthur Chemical Company is essentially a Canadian company founded in 1842.As mentioned before the company has purchased 11 of the 12 existing buildings.The remaining one, known as building number 6, will in due time, according to Mr.Cauchon, be used for industrial purposes.The former Merck property consisted of 174 acres.Of this the city will still own 150 acres which will remain part of the industrial park area and will be used to establish new industries.At his press confer - ence the mayor took the opportunity to thank the members of his council for keeping the establish - 8 PAGES ST.LAWRENCE ment ot the new plant a secret until the appropriate time ofhis announce - ment, as talks for the purchase of the property had been going on for several weeks, The SUN in turn would like to congratulate Mavor Cauchon and the members of the City Council for the fine job they are doing in bringing new industries to Valleyfield and gencrally working for the progress of the city.After the press conference a special meeting of the council was held to officially authorize the mayor to sign the sales contract.\u2018News 1s our Business\u2019 USTRIE A VALLEYFIELD' 24 heures après l'achat « des bütisses de a ;
