to be the inconvenience of sixteen youngsters who were being transported to nearby St Edwards, Bristol, for their daily classes because St.Mary's was not large enough for its population. The issue was said to be that it happened that the sixteen were French speaking children. The reason they are using the Bristol School for this group is that it is the smallest classroom unit in the entire school and the available classroom in Bristol is small. But overriding any logical explanation of the move, I I some of the parents of these children have been moved m to call in outside agitators to use Agriculture in Quebec, Assistant Deputy Minister Benoit Lavigne came to Shawville Fair this year. His message was one of encouragement to farmers and of optimism for the agricultural future of this great Province. Also from Quebec land also incidently from Otter Lake) came the Minister of Revenue, the Hon Raymond Johnston. His message was a bombshell.Nobody collapsed from shock when he told of the trend towards the closing down of Agricultural Exhibitions in the Province but the implications of this trend could spell disaster to fall fairs in Pontiac unless we strengthen our position. The suggestion has been made that three small fairs could become one large fair with more likelihood of survival. This was proposed before the official party from Quebec had got to the Fair. Then they entered the arena and were faced with the most impressive array of purebred herds of dairy and beef cattle ever seen under one roof.Every hair was in place, every hoof scrubbed, and Z ts bz;\t| ss ;»« Macdonald College, Agricultural Extension tory.We borrowed a $60 aerator and it did a wonderful job of sucking air through the grain in the bin and cooling and saved the trucking bill and the marketing fees, or if we could have doubled the yield, it would have made quite a different picture.Perhaps the profits were small, but the congratulations of the neighbors made up for it, who shared with us the pleasure of seeing the old farm come to life again. Now the last chapter of our winter wheat story can be written.Holidays are over, the wheat on the old home farm has been harvested, sold and delivered. And we are rather smugly pleased with it all.Not that we made any great fortune, mind you.In fact, 1 doubt that there will be enough left over to pay taxes. But you can\u2019t put a price on the satisfaction of making a thing like that work when you knew your neighbors were winking at each other behind your back.As it turned out our Laur-entian location well north of the winter wheat area, was a blessing. We were one of the few areas with good weather at harvest. The wheat came from the combine at 15.5 per cent moisture, a wee bit high for safe storage, but satisfac- sed to contribute.Mrs.Trudeau thanked the members for their co-opera tion with the bake sales and the centennial tea.which was it From the 34 acres we planted last fall, we harvested 33 tons We had hoped for 50 tons, but twitch grass and chemical damage knocked out five acres. The total crop sold for a few dollars over $2,000 A transportation bill of $200 for 150 miles to the mill took the cream off it.Marketing board fees at eighteen cents a bushel took another $200 bite. The custom combining cost us $250 and the seed drilling $100.Another $750 went on seed and fertilizer. That, added up doesn't leave much for our own tractor, taxes or time.If we could have fed the grain to livestock at home quite a success.Sister Marguerite outlined her subject for discussion at the next meeting in firm before cutting.Right now, they are still doughy, and some juice is leaking out of the silo. But he figures the loss in juice is less than the loss of grain to the birds.Millions of dollars are being spent in United States and Canada to solve the blackbird problem. No one has found an answer yet.The agronomy department buys shotgun shells by the case to protect the research plots.guy Montreal
