weight lifters were disqualified when tests showed iy had taken drugs before participating in the world weight lifting cha mpionsnip in u Ohio. The EauiTY r The Equity, Dear Editor: The Age of Aquarius some say this is it and peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars. This prophesy from HAIR sums up the feeling of many young people in our society especially in Urban areas and among college students particularly. They tell us, as one young fellow told me, if we cant go beyond all of the conservatively accepted mores then, we will smother because all creativity lies outside the restrictions of your generation. The trouble is many are going one step further and T suggest into the wilderness oy dropping society and institutions creating a sub-culture based on self-interest and drugs. This sub-culture than, threatens the main productive group by rioting, physical attacks on private citizens, rhetorical attacks by sympathetic public officials, parents and left wing liberals.I nave no intention of borrowing from or identifying myself with Spiro Agnew but I do think it is time for the educated sector of the silent majority to assert itself in the name of peace and harmony, then try to bridge the ever widening that is forming between vocal and violent alienated sector of the population and those who stand for law and order. The educated man must have a scrupulous sense of honesty, the ambition to excel, a love for and a personal commitment to the highest ideals of our country "Love Canada" and finally have a capacity for tolerance, intolerance leads to repression or revolution while tolerance is the midwife of peaceful change If we succeed in being an educated person-not necessarily a graduate from institutions of learning-and applying these ideals, then we will have a future of love and peace "A TRUE AGE OF AQUARIUS".Edgar B W Mulligan.\\ “Founded in 188T' Published Weekly et PONTIAC PRINTSHOP, Shewville, Quebec All Subscriptions ere peyeble in Experts at the Banting Institute in Toronto pinpoint noise pollution as one key contributor to emotional and mental illness.PONTIAC SPORTSMAN S PARADISE?Sure, but where do you go in Pontiac to find all the fish and game that is so widely advertised?Well, one way to find the answers is to write to the Government of Quebec for a list of outfitters for 1970.Another way is to read on here and write direct to some of the people listed below. The listed outfitters seem to center around Rapides des Joachims, Chapeau, Fort Coulonge, Otter Lake, Ca> amant and Verendrye Park.Andre I cssier for Squaw Lake Lodge All those outfitters listed hers of the Quebec Outfitters Associa-ion which was founded in 1946 to improve the quality of services offered to hunters and anglers.guarantees the excellence outfitters registered with the Government. They are Daniel Blaskie, Domina Gravellc, Julian Landau, Irvin Narlock, Nick Rous-sos and Erwin Geiger. At Lac Cayamant there is Gerard Labelle and for the Y'erendrye Park one can contact Gabriel Beauregard or Henri Poirier, both of Maniwaki. All these people can supply camps, boats, guides and a variety of other services and some of these facilities can night entire grounds were packed five crowds milling ana intermingling between the outdoor horse-drawing, the indoor variety show, the upstairs rock dance, the exhibitions in the old hall and the lively midway.Final figures on attendance haven’t been tabulated yet but it is considered by Fair President Clifton Dale that this year's Shawville I air topped all previous fairs for the number of people on the grounds during the three day event. 6 6 and only the The 1970 Quebec maple crop was the smallest of the past ten years, about 14 percent less than last year. This is attributed to unfavourable weather this spring and temporary cessation of activities by some producers. The notion to organize outfitters for the protection and benefit of the public was a good one twenty five years ago and the organization is still in good repute. As it enters its first quarter tury, the Association with the blessings of he Minister of Fish and Game,, only depends on the consciences of it’s guests to provide yet another good year for the hunters and fishers who flock here to enjoy their favorite sport.v ; If you wondered how the Department of Agriculture feels about the population explosion note that the Farming Family of 1970, chosen by that department, is the family of Ovila Duval of Grand St-Esprit in Nicolet County with seven sons and five daughters.cen- r GI NS IN CARS % 0 We have been informed that there ire people carrying guns in cars and the backs of trucks through the Ladysmith area and this has led to some concern because of the law which says they should be in the trunk of the car or in a closed case if there is no trunk. This law applies only at night.During the day, a hunter can carry a gun in his vehicle as long as he has a license and as long as it isn’t loaded.W hen people see hunters breaking the law they should report the license number to the Game Warden or the Provincial Police. The brown corrugated side of a carton has been stuck onto the white exterior of the Pontiac County Building with many strips of black electrician's tape.On the cardboard is scrawled "OFFICE - BUREAU" and on the driveway in front is an open sample case full of moose jaws.On enquiry into this informal set up you will be told that it is the official station of the Wild Life Department of Quebec and if you want to know how old your moose is you can compare his Jaw with those in the sample case. For elementary catholic school purposes Aldfield has been attached to Hull and Quyon has been attached to Aylmer. There is a rumour afoot that the municipal rearrangements might follow the school patterns but don't count on it.Meanwhile, Fort Coulonge, Mansfield and Pontefract are making moves towards amalgamation./ SCHOOL BITS DANGERS Wc have been informed that there ara drivers who will pass a school bus which is stopped to load or unload passengers.A near tragedy occurred near Quyon last week when a lady driver whizzed past a stopped school bus missing by inches a child who was crossing in front of the bus while the bus had its flashers blinking.About twenty children and a bus driver saw this happen but none could identify the driver of the car. When people see drivers breaking the law around school busses they should note down the license number and inform the Provincial Police. In the case of school busses it shouldn't be so hard since everyone on the bus has probably got a pencil and paper in his lap.We have also been told of it is wrong to expect the bus driver to he responsible for the children on his bus and also to drive safely. It takes a person's full attention to drive safely, especially in winter, on the roads of Pontiac County and no driver should also be held responsible for what the children are doing on his bus.He should be given the right to refuse transport to anyone causing any sort of disturbance at all breaking any rules of the bus but should not be expected to keep telling the child-to behave. If a bus driver is required to transport delinquent or problem children, he should be supplied with volunteers, perhaps the parents of such children, to ride in the bus and keep them under control during the ride.' As things are now, the driver is responsible for the children on the bus.I ntil this is changed we will have to make do with drivers whose full attention cannot be on the matter of safe driving.w 5# n About four hundred people from Shawville were at the races Monday night at Rideau Carle ton and watched Mayor Orla Young present the Shawville Cooler to owner B;uno Potvin for his ten year old pacer Odios, driven by Wally Demers to win the ninth race in 2.8.L Out of 9,875 firearms inspected last year by the mobile unites from the Department of Tourism, Hunting and Fishing, in the Province of Quebec, only 339 were judged to be in usable condition. For those who have been saying that horses are taking over the Shawville Fair, the youngsters have an answer. They say that the beef are taking it over.Certainly these two departments are making great steps forward each year and this year the beef auction reached heights of glory never dreamed of.The three top animals were those of Ron Fades, third, left, Debbie Cross, second, center, and Merlin Tubman first, right.Debbie's steer sold for $L 07 per pound, the highest price paid and three times the average for the sale.or ren 1 some careless mistakes made by the school bus drivers themselves and here again, thé correct procedure is to report this to the School Board. In this connection - w r V âir & a \\ i • wru ^ I MM* J F V.— J «E3L1, 4 i r ¦ 3 " F ip* L S Ls They get their encodage merit at an early age at Shawville Fair. Here Andrew Die toon shows the smallest Grand Champion on the grounds, his tiny Shetland Pony "Sunshine".Grand Champion Belgian Stallion, owned and exhibited by I» Leach of Rankin, and wearing the latest style, by Smiths Harness shop.Shawville. f on the weekend.Mrs Roy Stephens spent s dsy In Ottawa.Birthday meeting little David Sparling, Mias Patricia Smith, Mias Stacey Smith and Mrs Athol Smltn.Campbell's Bay Wednesday September 30th, 1970 THE EQUITY * Page 3 Mn Myitle Elliott spent-a month touring the BHtlsh Isles this summer and has returned home.Sewing classes and advanced French adult courses are now In progress In town with many pupils attending.& Mrs I to The staff of the Bank of Canada, Research Dept, entertained Mrs Richardson prior to her marriage, at the Beacon Arms Hotel Mrs Nelson Hobbs, Mr Dan Hobbs, Mr & Mrs Geo.Bretzlaff, Miss Marilyn Racine, Mr & Mrs H.Moore, Mr & Mrs Arnold Corrigan, all of Ottawa.Mrs Hazel Bruce of Aylmer Roy Sly of Cobden, Mrs Ron Le Claire, Renfrew and Mr & Mrs Lloyd Neville, Fort Cou longe.Mrs John G entertained at her home at Radford on August 28th, 1970 at a Rehearsal party prior to the Rlchardson-Oualle wedding.Otter Lake Mr & Mrs HI Ills Smith recently celebrated their 45th Wedding Anniversary. An error In last week's issue of the paper stated 40th Anniversary whereas It was the 45th.Mrs Baxter received a call that her 93 year old father had become ill# so she went to Hamilton to be with him.We all wish him a speedy recovery.E.R./ 0 o very photography Mr Brnie Kluke visited friends in Ottawa X Mrs Loeche, Wakefield visited her sister, Mrs Clifford Hahn.Get well wishes goto Mrs Eddy Hahn who is in the Shaw ville Hospital Mr & Mrs Adolpn Zim me fling visited at the home of Mr & Mrs Fred Krutz in Hull last week.Mrs Hannah Zacharias spent a week visiting her brothers in Hull, son in Ottawa and brother in Bristol.Richardson GOLDEN WEDDING Mr, end Mrs.John Muldoon eva andai PORTRAITS FAMILY tr-A mi Among those who entertained in honour of Mrs Donald T Richardson (the former Sharon Quaile) were.* Mrs Clifford Hahn, and Mrs C«,rson Russell at the home of the latter Norway Bay, Que.Miss Lorna Barber and her mother, Mrs Hollis Barber, Shaw ville; people show their devotion. Many are showing devotion to their homes, cottages, boats, golf courses, lawns, and hobbies. They show by the time they spend and the effort they make toward such things, that these are the things they really love.A man who has traded in the Lord's Day for the empty, hollow weekend, has made a very bad bargain. In filling his life with fun and physical activity only, he
