Do I look like “just another black dog?” Like just another “overweight black dog?” Well this is true, but here is my story: Just last week I was returned to the shelter because my family had “no time.” I am a 7-year-old female and they adopted me from this shelter five years ago - at least they didn't leave me in the ditch or on the highway (very common!); nor did they give me to someone who also didn't want me! So I am safe and sound for the time being.I wonder what I looked like five years ago - Pretty?Slim?Lovely?I could be that again with the right family! I am mature, loving, laid back, cooperative -about 50 pounds (and should be less!).Would you like me to join your family? Please come and visit us here at the SPCA Montérégie; 178, ch.du Vide, Ste-Angèle-de-Monnoir (exit 37 on autoroute 10).Adoption hours are 2 - 4 p.m.on Thursdays and Saturdays.450-460-3075 www.spcamonteregie.com into your own hands 1877 369-7845 (514) 369-7845 www.osteoporose.qc.ca matters Take page 4 Tuesday, September 25, 2012 Brome County N Ayante October Newsletter Letter Do they lack the intelligence to do due diligence?Dear Editor: Fifteen hundred people in Knowl-ton are required to pay for town water.(Even if they don’t use it.) Recently our new town manager had to turn off two-thirds of Knowlton’s water to comply with provincial laws that were arrogantly ignored for several years due to incompetence and neglect by some councillors and town employees. The result is that taxpayers will soon take a hit: The 1,500 will have to pay their normal expensive water taxes plus between $125 and $200 more/per-son for the water the Town is forced to truck in.Not one councillor has accepted responsibility, apologized, or offered to return their salary for doing nothing.Instead they twisted their lack of due diligence into an ignorant media attack on the Mayor.Evidently they all agree it’s not kosher for the Mayor to tell it like it is.Indeed they appear to be proud of their special combination of arrogance and ignorance. Most people behave this way for profit, but our councillors are just plain losers; instead of doing what they are paid to do, instead of leading, they look to their employees for orders, and as the tail wags the dog, not one of them accepts responsibility, morally or legally, for anything. So now, we are the real losers: we lost millions in grants offered by Quebec to bury wires, then we lost more of our taxes in a botched music festival, (how much?) then we lost a bundle in wood chipping and if the Mayor had not intervened we were about to blow another million in extras for a pet garage project. The water debacle is not only expensive, failed water systems can be deadly. Why?Because our councillors don’t have what it takes to serve taxpayers; they don’t act, instead they react; like spoilt children; they blame the mayor, they try to a quash news reports they don’t control.Basically, they lack the intelligence to do due diligence.Brian Timmins Knowlton Thanks to the enthusiasm of our members, our programming has started in full force! We were delighted to see over 50 women arrive at our Open House in September, and 21 volunteers contributed towards making 114 pies for the Missisquoi Museum’s Apple Pie Festival. We are encouraged and touched by your support, and we hope to see many of you at our upcoming activities.Sunday, Sept.30 - Avante will be participating in the “Walk for Women’s’ Cancers” on September 30 in Knowlton. If you’d like to join our team, or commit to a pledge to support our efforts, please call the centre for more information.(450)248-0530 Monday, October 1 - Knowlton Coffee Break “Women in the Civil War” Lac Brome Community Centre.270 Victoria, Lac Brome Grace Getty has studied women through history, following her passion as well as fulfilling her university degree. She has agreed to share her knowledge of why women chose to disguise themselves as men during the Civil War.In addition, we will be watching excerpts from Pépita Ferrari’s documentary, “The unsexing of Emma Edmonds,” the amazing true story of a nineteenth century Canadian girl who ran away from home disguised as a travelling Bible salesman and served in the American Civil War as a nurse, dispatch carrier and spy.Starting at 1:30 Tuesday, October 2 - Quebec Women’s Centre Day On the first Tuesday of October, the annual Women’s Centres Day has been celebrated throughout Quebec since 2003.Join us at 6 p.m.for hors d’oeuvres and a glass of wine while chatting about how the centre has been good for your health.and finish the evening with the Infuriation Boogie!
