Domaine McCullough is situated on 190 acres, seven kilometres outside of Sutton Village. The 10,000 square feet building includes a swimming pool, sauna, massage facilites and a fitness area with standard equipment. The rooms and kitchen are no longer in operation.“What we are doing is opening the place for people just to come and spend the day and relax, use the pool and sauna, enjoy the outdoor trails through the woods.Although the cafeteria won’t be offering meals, people are welcome to bring their lunches, sit at the tables and enjoy the view,” said Hiriart. The centre will still offer massages by appointment with any of their professional, certified masseurs. The centre can also help people with a weight loss and exercise programs. There are also aqua fitness and water jogging programs as well as scheduled free time in the pool. The property, settled among acres of forest, is bysected by walking and winter trails suitable for both snow shoeing and cross country skiing.“We’re holding the open house Saturday and inviting people to come and have a look at our facilites and to see what we have available here all under one roof,” Hiriart said. The resort targets people 18 years and over, those who want to relax and spend a day or half day, just doing that, said Hiriart. There are memberships available, but people can also just drop by for a day.“I have plans for the future in this same direction, putting in jacuzzis perhaps, and other facilities to help people relax,” Hiriart said. The open house runs from noon to 3 p.m.Dec.4 at 567 McCullough, Sutton.(PHOTO COURTESY OF your car and let it idle for - awhile. You go out, UNDER start it up and then The head back into the HOOD house to finish your - morning coffee, or Maurice get the kids ready for Crossfield school. For those of you with remote car starters, it’s even easier. But while letting your car idle for 10 or 15 minutes will allow you to ease onto a seat that’s not as hard as concrete, it’s not a great idea.In the long run that warm seat costs money and harms the environment, while doing little to help your car face the winter.First off, let’s kill one old myth: It used to be that a car was left idling on cold days to give the oil a chance to circulate and get everything moving properly. While it’s true the most engine wear is at start-up, we’re talking about the first few seconds, not a few minutes. These days most cars run a lighter grade of oil in the winter, allowing it to circulate more quickly. That oil circulates in a modern engine, which is in fact designed to be ready to go much more quickly than the big blocks of yesteryear. These days most experts recommend that as soon as the windows are clear (no more than a couple of minutes, usually), you should drive away at a moderate pace, giving the rest of the vehicle the chance to warm up.More Cost Excessive idling actually brings with it more costs than benefits.Because these engines are designed not to be idled excessively, doing so can plug the engine up with carbon, making a motor less efficient, creating more pollution and shortening engine life.An idling engine also doesn’t reach its optimum temperature, so it doesn’t bum fuel completely. That means more pollution coming out of the tail pipe. Then there’s the cost of pollution. The average Canadian car idles for between five and 10 minutes a day. That equals 75 million idling minutes a year, or the equivalent of leaving one car idling for 144 years. That’s a lot of wasted effort and time when a car is doing little other than belching carbon dioxide into the air.One litre of gas produces 2.4 kilograms of carbon dioxide with a vehicle producing, on average, three times its own weight in C02 every year — a major contribution to the global warming problem. Those in the know are now making efforts to cut down on idling times.turbo version \___250 hp> ALL WHEEL nRivc DAYS ^ NOBODY DOES ALL-WHEEL DRIVE LIKE SUBARU SUBARU SAMT-JÉRÔME SA* T-JÉRÔME seconds, shut the engine off.The Conseil Régional de l’Environnement de l’Estrie is actually more moderate, suggesting a shut down if idling for more than 30 seconds. The old idea that it takes more fuel to start a car than to let it idle is no longer seen as valid. In fact, the CREE says a car idling for 10 minutes a day will use about 100 litres of gas, costing about $90 a year.Hybrids Don’t Idle Even some of the new low emission vehicles have adopted the no idle policy. Some shut down when you come to a halt, only to start up again when you press on the accelerator. It saves gas, and saves the environment. It also saves our personal health. The numbers of people with asthma continue to grow, while ground level smog sends people with breathing problems off to hospital. That not only wrecks their quality of life, but it costs the health system as well. Here are some tips to help make your car environmentally friendly, even when it’s cold: • Cut down on your idling time.A couple of minutes first thing in the morning is all that’s necessary.Drive away slowly for the first few kilometres, giving your vehicle the best chance to warm up.You’ll save gas while minimizing the wear and tear on your car.• If you have a remote starter, only use it just before you leave.A warm car might be nice to slip into, but you’re only doing it for your own comfort, not for anyone else’s benefit.• Avoid the desire to leave the car idling while you run into the corner store. Not only does it cut down on pollution, but an empty, idling car is an open invite to a thief.• When it’s really cold, use the block heater. The car will start more easily, and warm up faster. That saves on engine wear and lets the heater get to work faster — soft seat, softer on the environment, too.Sometimes the little things can make a difference.Brief Canadian Club X-mas reception The Canadian Club ofYamaska Valley will hold their Christmas reception on Dec.6 at 2 p.m.at the Auberge West Brome. Entre Nous Thérèse Bernard Davidson: Cont’d from Page 1 bottled water and of course boxes of factory cakes.“People would let him right into their homes. He’d always have a smile on his face because by nature he was a cheerful sort of fella,” Pat said. These impromptu visits afforded Davidson an incomparable opportunity to be kept abreast of any gossip and validate rumours.“It really was an old-time kind of business,” Pat said, underscoring that Davidson was one of the last such operators — himself a vestige of a foregone time that saw the end of stalwart milkmen and itinerant knife sharpeners. In the Davidson’s home was where one could find Pat’s office, the receiving, storage and handling departments of the various goods that made up the daily inventory Peter would haul around in his truck. He would sometimes take the children along for the day, opening the gateway to one of those moments that permanently weld themselves into the hearts of any child who would jump at the chance to ride with their dad.As a testimonial to the impact the “Man with the old blue tuque” had on this extended community, an ad hoc family trust fund has been set up in his name by individuals all in search of a tangible way to show their final respects.Several commercial locations have posted cash deposit boxes, which will be collected and handed over to Davidson’s family over the holidays.Pat recounted the time a Montreal woman who was babysitting in the area was stunned to have a stranger waltz into the house. He opened the fridge door and carefully added several items he selected from the box he had carried in with him.Upon being told by the child that he was the milkman, the woman dubbed the stealth and determined character “the angel.” Now more than ever the name seems strikingly appropriate.Aside from grieving parents, siblings and an extended family, Davidson s death at age 45 leaves Pat and children Chelsey,9, and Aaron, 8, both students at Sutton Elementary, in mourning.A memorial service will be on Dec.11 at 11 a.m.at the Grace Anglican Church, 54 Main South, Sutton.
