church while the choir was at practice, and, after making a selection, left his well-known and somewhat out of date hat.The matter was reported to Chief Davidson, and after surveying the hat, he at once recognized it as belonging to Charles Epps.An officer proceeded to Charlie’s home, with an invitation to come up and interview the chief.Epps was told to return the hat which he had exchanged for his own.He denied any connection with the missing hat, and after some persuasion he left and returned shortly afterwards with two hats.As neither of them was the one wanted, he was given a last chance, and told to get “that hat.” Charlie, with the cold damp cells looming before him, started out again in search of the hat, and returned with It neatly done up in paper. The hat w’as returned to its owner, and Charlie will have to explain the matter before the District Magistrate.State of Ohio, City of Toledo, Lucas County.ss.Frank J.Cheney makes oath that he is senior partner of the firm of editor to attend church and report the sermon. Here is what he wrote, unblemished by the editorial pencil : “The weather was perfect, and the grandstand and bleachers wrerc packed. The Rev.Dr.- was in the box for the Christians, and he certainly had everything in the book.“When he tackled New .Jerusalem he used the slow ball artistically but when he warmed up in hades he had speed to burn and whipped them over like a shot.“He had sw’cll control and never lost sight of the plate for a minute, especially after it had been passed around.“The choir did a good deal of rooting from the player’s bench, and occasionally a voice from the bleachers yelled ‘Amen !’ Although it was an extra-inning game he never let up and had the visitors properly backed up throughout, putting some of them to sleep.“If he can only keep up the pace-* the big league for ‘his’ next season.” —Buffalo Times.POSTAGE TO MAURITIUS The postmaster is advised that the Postal Administration of Mauritius has consented Mr.Andrew Cram was being used to haul a heavy load, and Mr.Hall was assisting in running the engine.A sudden movement over a slight obstruction seems to have thrown Mr.Hall against the end of the machine where he was severely crushed between it and the heavy truck, or the steam launch that was loaded upon it.His body struck against the glass water gauge at the end of the engine holler and the steam and water rushing out of the broken tube scalded the unfortunate man’s bodv in a frightful manner.—:-*- But the old reliable Putnam’s Corn Extractor is entirely vegetable in composition and does
