Mr.N G.Scott, Scotstowo, Defeat Told the Results.Sherbrooke.SUMMARY Liberal Conservative Labor Deferred Elections .Total Conservative Opposition last legislature, The returns which have been received from all over the province shows that the Gouin Government is stronger in majority than it was in the last Legislature.Of the seven new seats created by the redistribution, the liberals gained four and the Conservatives two, while a Labor candidate won the seventh. The new House will thus be composed of 61, Liberals, 17 Conservatives and two Labor representatives, of whom Montreal and Quebec city contributed one each.In the last Legislature there were 58 Liberals and 16 Conservatives.Sir Lomer Gouin was elected in both Portneuf and St.Johns, being the only representative to be elected for two divisions, although some of his lieutenants ran in two, as also did Mr.Armand Lavergne and Jean Prévost.Every member of the Government was re-elected with the exception of the Hon.Mr.Caron.Mr.Tellier, leader of the Opposition, and Mr.Lavergne were elected. The net result of the election is, therefore, that the two parties will face each other in the next Legisla-tare with the same leaders and practically the same proportionate forces.PREMIER IS PLEASED.Quebec, May 16.—Premier Gouin received the news of the election at his office in the Legislature buildings last evening.Hon.Messrs.Devlin and Kaine were with him. When the first returns came in Sir Lomer received them smilingly."We have won our election," said the Premier, "and I am not disappointed. It seems as if I have given the Opposition too generous a division, and the Opposition will not get the twenty seats which I allowed."I am pleased to see,” said the Premier, “that the electors of the province arc able to vote with intelligence, and I am gratified by the large majorities which have supported my followers. The only disappointment is the dfeat of Hon.Mr.Caron in LTslet, but this will soon be remedied." MR.TELLIER FULL OF FIGHT.Montreal, May 16.—Mr, J.M.Tellier, the Opposition leader, received the results at Joliette.Although disappointed that his followers had not met greater success he was not at all discouraged, and declared that the fight would be kept up with undiminished vigor, just as the Conservatives had fought in Ontario until they ultimately secured the victory.Over the long distance telephone the Opposition leader made the following statement : "I am absolutely unable to give any cause for our defeat.I had been all over the province, visiting nearly every county, and there wa»8'nothing to indicate what has happened. Now that the campaign is over I wish to thank the many workers who put up such a splendid fight for the Conservative cause, and to assure them that the Opposition in the Legislature will continue its work in the cause of good i government for the province with un- | diminished zeal.” TWO DEFERRED ELECTIONS.The final results when the Legislature meets may show a slightly stronger majority for the Government, since the elections for the Magdalen Islands and Gaspe will not be held for several days, and they generally go with the government. There will also be a bye-election for cither St.John’s or Portneuf, which arc now represented Eiy Sir Lomer Gouin. It is expected the Premier will hold to his old riding and resign in St.Johns, when he will naturally exert every influence to hold this for his oarty nominee.SIR WILFRID CHEERED.Ottawa, May 16.—Sir Wilfrid Laurier returned to Ottawa last night, from Arthabaska, where he had recorded his vote, and on the way up heard some of the returns in the provincial elections in Quebec. On his arrival in the capital he learned the full result and was elated. The victory seemed to make him even more young and lie was as gleeful as hoy again at the first Liberal since the fateful Sept.21.60 .17 .2 .- ._2 .81 had sixteen members in the a cheer
