Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

Revealed to Anyone, QUESTION OF INDEMNITY, Likely to Prove the Bone of Contention in the Negotiations Between the Two Powers.8¢.Petersburg, June 1l-In diplo- \u2018matic circles bere it is felt that Great Britain can now play a great role in seconding the President's imitiative by restraining ber ally and counselling moderate terms.Harsh and bumiligt- ing terms would not be accepted and for that reason diplomatic circles express the greatest skepticism as to whether Japan, elated by her wonder ful vietories, would be reasonable enough to offer a basis which Russia sibly can accept. If at the ond ussia were, forced to humble hereeit i the dust, her ignominy would spur bor to scel: rovenge, as Alnace-Lor- raine did Frauce for many years. There is an infinite amount of gossip here about common knowledge tn America and in the chancellcries of Europe, Japan bas not revealed her exact terms oven to her ally.Russia is not likely to prove recalcitrant.According to the best opimion she is prepared to abandon the whole of hes Manchurian venture and to give guar- antecs. The rub will come upon tbe question of an indemnity which, it is the concensus of opinion in diplomatic circles, Japan will exact, but if it should be moderate and sugar-coated so that it could be liquidated by tbe sale of the Chinese Eastern Railroad and the cession of and leases in the Kwantung Pcoinvula, it might established that she can afford to dispense with the exaction ol so bitter a condition.Though the leeling against 5 cession of actual ter ritory is al , the Island of Sakbalin, over which Japan and the practical results of President Roose velt's action which perbaps ie quite naturel, he ical pepers continue their tactics, insisting that the \u2018conclusion of hostilities is desirable, a disgraceful peace would be intolerabie and that only a national asseurbly should decide the question of war or peace. The Liberal papers profess to fenr that peace would strengthen the Government and give the setback to reforms, but shrewd observers realise that the Government with the end of the war will be confronted with the most difficult problems, one of the greatest of which would be what to do with an army of hall a million men diegruntied with the results of the war, No report from Rear-Admiral Nehotof has yet bcen received and this act, combined with the wording of the Emperor's recent
