Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

in the stock market developed considerable hesitancy during the past week and the net changes ns a Tule arc responsible for s Teac during the last few days, the selling in this instance being attributed to the cleaning up of some large speculative accounts preparatory to the de parture of a group of heavy operators on midsummer vacation trips. The strong undertone of the market exhibit- od no material abatement, however, and the manner in which the market withstood the heavy realizing salcs after such a pronounced advance as it has enjoyed was considered encouraging as to the outlook for a more active speculation with higher prices after the midsummer vacation i sball have passed over. There is at present no good reason why prices should suffer any important eet back in the meantime, On the contr the general situation appears so f of promise for the future that the chances secm to weigh heavily in favor of further appreciation in values before the present atrong technical conditions of the speculation can be materially altered.Prices have advanced steadily without any decided increase in outside ative interest, and notwith- vtanding the extent of the advance from the low levels of several weeks ago the scarcity of offerings is hardly less pronounced than it was at that time indicating that the bulk of stocks By private wize from Chae.Head &O0.New York strong hands, The action of the Baltimors & Uhio Railroad directors in placing the stock upon a five per cent.dividend basis attests an optimistc view of the future by an important group of railroad and financial interest, à view which would seem to be entirely justified by the current returns from railway traffic, trade reports and the crop outlook. The latter is decidedly favorable at this time as evidenced by the Government report showing tbe condition on July Ist.Since then it is believed there has been some further ra in wheat, but the best authorities are inclined to the beliet that the crop will be sufficient to allow for a fair exportable surplus, The indications for the corn erop point to & record yield.Furthermore, it is to be remembered that the present prices of these staples are exceptionally bigh- or still further augmenting the vast increase in the wealth of the country if the harvests are brought to a cessful issue.Reports from the and iron trads indicate general faction with present ard prospective conditions in this industcy, and indeed it appears that in some branches of the trade the volume of business is nlready upon a record scale. There is the usual anticipation ol higher money rates in the autumn when the demand for crop moving purposes will be heavy and even now timc rates are exhibiting a firmer tendency, but banking interests do not appear to expect any approach to stringent conditions. The investment demard following the nid year disbursements has been disappointing, but the large oversub- scription to tho latest Japanese loan roves the existenoe of an enormous uying power where sufficient inducements are offered ahd.with the proa- pects of further increases in the dividend return on various leading railroad and industrial issues it would appear that such inducements will be lacking in the stock market during the next few months. While we are inclined to look for greater speculative activit when the crop season is further advanced the indications point to a dull though fairly firm market for the next few weeks. We think, however, that traders will find it profitable to buy good stocks on the reactions.Monkey Brand Soap cleans
