Now who would pass up food?COURTESY Traveling bug exhibit coming to Sherbrooke Record Staff After 5 successful editions of the Insect Festival at the Aquarium de Québec, La Bibitte Mobile is packing its bags and heading on a tour of the region.The travelling exhibit, whose objective is to make the world of insects accessible to the general public will offer a multitude of fun activities on Sept.7 and 8 at Domaine Howard, in conjunction with Rendez-vous Howard events.Since 2012, the mission of Bibitte Mobile has been to organize educational, awareness-raising and activities on entomology in schools.The mobile insect exhibit tour hopes to awaken the public to the indispensable role of insects in nature and our daily lives.The exhibit includes the largest exhibition of insects in North America, a multitude of interactive booths, as well as hundreds of live specimens, many of which can be touched or held.Scorpions, tarantulas, giant centipedes and praying mantis are just a few of the live insects available to get up close and touch.A jewelry workshop on site will allow participants to create insect inspired work that can be worn, including beautiful insect wings.Butterfly aviary With the consumption of insects by humans becoming more and more popular with the general public.The exhibition will offer a locust and cricket tasting. The Curtis family is all about tradition in more ways than one.Whether it is country living or country music, father and son are all for it.Chris Curtis (Brian\u2019s son) is now getting ready to move back to Stanstead where he grew up.\u201cI was the sixth generation Curtis raised on the family farm in Stanstead East.I currently live in Hatley with my wife, and two daughters.We are in the process of moving to the family farm,\u201d said Chris Curtis in an interview.He is in his 19th year working at Everest Equipment in Ayer\u2019s Cliff, where he started a job as a student at 16.He also cuts lumber in his spare time but his true passion is music, something he shares with his father as they both play in the same band.Music is also part of the tradition since his grandfather on his mom's side played a little guitar and loved music.His great-grandfather on his dad's side was Swedish and played guitar and loved to sing.His sisters were opera singers in Sweden.\u201cI am extremely fortunate to have a father heavily involved in music.He was playing in bands before I was born, and as a child I remember admiring him and his band at the time, \u201cSilver Eagles\u201d, playing at local dance halls on Saturday nights,\u201d he explained.He remembers how he was drawn right to the drums.He was also the typical kid playing on buckets and whatever he could find to use as a drum set, playing along to the Silver Eagles recordings.\u201cI had very supportive parents growing up that never ever forced me into playing a particular instrument or following a particular genre of music.They gave me the time to practice and were always willing to drive me around for practices or gigs,\u201d he said thankfully.Curtis realizes now how his parents were attentive to his love of music as well as the wisdom of his father guiding him towards the right choices for a bright future.\u201cRight from the age of about five it was all about drums.But around the age of 9, my father made a deal with me.If I did a few years of piano lessons to learn timing and the basics of music, he would get me a drum set,\u201d he reminisced.\u201cI agreed and he held his word and bought me a set a few years later.I then began lessons with the former drummer of Silver Eagles, the man that I had looked up to my entire childhood.Around the age of 12 I started playing around with bass, and then guitar,\u201d he recalled.The young man has since put his love of music to good use.Really talented, Curtis is still fairly young to have all these years of playing in bands under his belt.He is the kind of guy who is always appreciative for what life and music brings.\u201cI have been extremely fortunate to play with many great talented people over the years,\u201d he said.He first started playing drums in a band called Fluke in high school when he was 13.By the time he was 14, he started playing in a band called Mountain Dew with his father, which is now named Slightly Haggard.\u201cIt's now been 20 years that I have been playing with that same group of guys.It seems very rare for a group of guys to play that long together.I\u2019m very lucky to be part of that group.\u201d Among other things, he played drums TALK The Record Your Weekly Guide to Townships Culture August 30 , 2019 - If you\u2019ve seen Slightly Haggard live, it's quite obvious that we are pretty big admirers of Merle Haggard\u201d.For quite a few years now he has been a fan of the low key, unknown guys.Cody Jinks, Whitey Morgan, The Steel- woods and Blackberry Smoke; musicians that are more traditional country and rock.\u201cThough to this day I am still a fan of bands from my youth ranging from Foo Fighters to Pearl Jam and beyond.I have always admired a variety of genres,\u201d he said about his eclectic taste.\u201cWith Slightly Haggard, we are fortunate to be asked to play all these amazing benefits and events.There are so many great people that come out to see us on a regular basis.It's really incredible.The music scene in this area seems to be dwindling at a fast rate\u201d he explained.\u201cThere are not many opportunities to play live with a group anymore.I am also grateful to be able to branch out on occasion to play guitar and bass.I just hope to be able to continue this journey.\u201d Playing music can be difficult with a young family because it's hard to be away so much.So it is easily understandable when he said that he is a blessed guy to have a wife that supports him being gone on weekends.Slightly Haggard and Classic Blvd just wrapped up playing Cookshire Fair and Ayer\u2019s Cliff Fair.With many gigs in store for the year to come, Chris Curtis is a lucky guy indeed but his luck came from hours of honing his skills and a great attitude towards life.\u201cMy short musical career has had plenty of great and amusing times.Some rough times as well but mostly just great memories with awesome people.It's always been an enjoyable time to load up a bunch of guys in one vehicle with a trailer and head out to a gig.Always come home with a sore belly from all the laughs,\u201d he concluded.You can catch him on Sept.7 at the Burroughs Falls Dance Hall backing up country singer Amy Jones.Chris Curtis Studio Georgeville exhibition on theme of wood Record Staff AVernissage will be held on Saturday, Sept.14, from 3 to 5 p.m.for a new exhibition, Out of the Woods, at Studio Georgeville on the theme of wood.The exhibition will include works by Duff Armour, Sylvia Bertolini, Richard Bourassa, Françoise Cloutier, Dave Ecker, Alexandra MacDougall, John Murphy, Dawn Neander, Linda Peacock, Michel Villeneuve and co-op members.The gallery is open Friday to Sunday from 11 a.m.to 5 p.m.It is located at 20, carré Copp, Georgeville.For more information about the upcoming exhibition, call (819) 843-9992 or visit www.studiogeorgeville.com.
