Nonetheless, I did my best to portray my female character, Jemima, as a well- rounded human being. In fact, one in- I: 2016, I published a novel entitled A terviewer told me, “She’s a real girl,” to which I replied, “Some people have said the same thing about me.” Furthermore, on at least one occasion Jemima expresses her relief at not wearing a bra or alludes to the relief of removing her bra at the end of the day.I apologize for this gender-based assumption.I have no experience wearing a bra and historically limited experience in removing them.As a man, I cannot fully appreciate the full-on encumbrance of bra-dom, and it was wrong of me to appropriate the blessed relief a woman must feel at becoming thusly unhampered. In my defence, I have personally suf fered the agony of restricting undergarments, having once worn an overly snug pair of boxer-briefs that had a bullseye painted on the crotch, which is just begging for trouble, if you ask me.However, I have no legitimate position from which to complain, due to tighty-whitey male privilege.Moving on to other clothing, I feel compelled to point out that the same female protagonist, Jemima, is depicted as habitually wearing rubber boots. The book is set in 1998.I began writing the novel in 2012.In 2014, as I neared completion of the novel, rubber boots became fashionable for women.I therefore must express my deep regret for pre-ap- propriating contemporary fashion culture in a 1990s setting. It was future insensitive of me.The boots did, however, come in handy when Jemima found herself traipsing through the marsh with a visiting biologist.I would like to apologize for making one of my characters a visiting biologist.I did so without fully understanding biologist culture, although I did take Biology in high school, a course that included briefly poking at a formaldehyde cat carcass until it was put away for next year’s class. This did not necessarily inform my understanding of biology; it was just kind of gross. It was insensitive of me to feature a biologist, given that biologists have traditionally suffered significant marginalization at faculty meetings and cocktail parties.I did so only to establish a character who could interact with turtles.I would like to apologize to all turtles and those of turtle lineage for exploiting their heritage for my self-serving fiction needs.Turtles are noble creatures who have too long remained silent. They’ll likely remain silent too, being turtles, but that’s not the point! The point is I appropriated the turtleocracy without a full understanding of the turtle lifestyle, other than a little time browsing the Internet and emailing my brother, who is a real turtle guy.You want to know turtles, my brother’s your man! I would like to apologize to my brother for dragging him into this miserable morass of appropriation apologizing. He was not consulted about his inclusion nor could he have anticipated that I would be exploiting his presence here for satirical purposes.I would like to apologize to satire for dragging this bit far too long. Finally, I am sorry that all the characters in my novel are white, English and straight, but they say write what you know.Employee arrested in Olympique metal robbery Record Staff SHERBROOKE local used metal company took a strange twist this week with the arrest of the alleged victim. This is the fourth suspect in a robbery that took place at Olympique métal in Ascot Corner on June 3.The other three, Kevin Johnson, a 38-year-old from Cow- ansville, Tommy Gauthier, 23, and Jessie Ti case of an armed robbery at a Larose 20, from Bonsecours, face several charges connected with this incident including armed robbery and use of a firearm. Two shots were fired during the event. The men also face several additional weapons charges. The new arrest is that of the employee who handed over $70,000 from the company safe who is alleged to have been aware of whom he was dealing with when two hooded individuals showed up at the end of the day on June 1.Gauthier, Larose, and Johnson were back in court Wednesday at the Sherbrooke court house to set the timing of their hearing on release, but the latest developments could alter the Crown approach to the case. The suspects came in wearing makeshift hood at the company to demand that the employee, whom they evidently knew, to give them some money. The three were arrested shortly after.Ben by Daniel Shelton © 2017 Danicl Shellon Distr.by MWAM DIP YOU MAKE A PLAYLIST LIKE I "KING OF PAIN.BITES THE PUST ."RUNNING ON EMFT 7e) "ENP?OF THE RAP."ANOTHER ONE “6 SHEL | HOW CANYOU RUN WITHA) | LIST LIKE THAT 2! access to the St.Francis bridge and the north side of the St.Francis river can be attempted via Winder Stand Glenday Road.It should be noted, however, that Winder St, may or may not be under construction depending on the whim of unionized paving crews.Glen- day Road will also be temporarily reduced from a two-lane, badly paved goat track to a one-lane gravel road in anticipation of the arrival of highway 410 sometime in 2025.Residents of the Borough of Lennoxville can reduce stress levels and travel inconveniences by following a few simple rules suggested by the City of Sherbrooke: 1.Do not leave your immediate neighbourhood for anything other than grocery shopping or medical emergencies (In the latter case, under no circumstances attempt to get to the Hotel Dieu on Bowen St.) 2.Obtain and read the free booklet available at the borough office: “A Short Guide to Interpreting and Understanding Flag and Hand Signals at Road Construction Sites.” 3.Always carry a "Bill 105 has yet to level the political playing field for parent commissioners." Here's why: The piece is another example of the pattern of contempt toward school board democracy and proper ethical conduct that seems to prevail in the elected school board system.Evidence of this was made clear, on two counts, at the May 29, 2017, Lester B.Pearson School Board Council of Commissioners meeting.First: even though my public consultation document on the board's revamped code of ethics contained no defamatory, hateful, racist , xenophobic, sexist or rude remarks, acting chair Noél Burke significantly redacted my submission.Pages were removed and some sentences were blacked-out.Funny thing, the paper was modelled after my 29 and 42-page briefs on school board reform bills 86 and 105, which the National Assembly found suitable, and are posted on its website.(Www.assnat.qc.ca) Second: the last 17 minutes of the webcast meeting have been deleted. This included cutting off another citizen and me at Public Question Period time, which is required by law under Article 168 of the Education Act.Consider: In Sept.2008, touting transparency, the Pearson board was the first school board in Quebec to webcast its Council meetings.Yet, the entire January and April 2017, Council webcast meetings have audio only, no video. Why is that ?Both meetings partly dealt with the sorry spectacle of the scandal-plagued board, based on the ethical misconduct, which was "well-founded" by the ethics commissioner, of chair Suanne Stein Day.In my view, the above actions are attempts to keep the community in the dark, cover-up wrongdoings, and suppress democracy.Elected school boards are good at composing Vision Statements,’ which repeatedly disappoint.Consider the ETSB's statement which claims it is: " A welcoming place, where parents, community members and business partners have an important role to play." However, when it comes to budget matters, parents are unenlightened.Same thing at Lester B.They proclaim: ".we value an atmosphere of openness, honesty, integrity and accountability." Yet, former long-time vice-chair of Pearson, who ran for chair, in the Now.2014 elections, said "the school board budget is not even transparent to the commissioners!" The time is past due when honeyed words mean anything. Thanks to the Internet, parents are a lot more knowledgeable today.ETSB parents say: "We’re not giving up.we want to see change." I believe the first step to change is to dump memberships to the pretentious Quebec English School Boards Association, who claim it is "the voice of English public education in Quebec." Can we really do that?"Yes, we can !" I= grateful to Matthew McCully for his June 9, Sherbrooke Record article: helping the Atlanta Braves to multiple division titles and a World Series ampionship. The Braves are returning to their strong pitching roots and Canadian Mike Soroka is at the forefront. The 19-year-old Soroka was promoted to double-A to start the 2017 season _ a rarity for a player in his second full season as a pro.Atlanta director of player development Dave Trembley said the promotion wasn't a hard decision.“Mike's going to be real special,” Trembley said.“He's a guy that will take the ball every fifth day, he's going to be a guy that's going to give you a lot of innings. He prepares very well, he's very mature, he knows what he wants.“We have a lot of confidence in the direction he's going and we see him as a front-line pitcher in Atlanta for a long time.” The Calgary native hasn't disappointed since being promoted, going 7-3 with a 2.45 earned-run average in 12 starts with the Mississippi Braves. He also took a perfect game into the seventh inning of a May 12 start against the Mobile BayBears, retiring the first 19 batters he faced. The six-foot-five, 225-pound right-hander credits playing for the Canadian junior team with helping his transition to the pros after he was selected 28th overall in the 2015 MLB draft.“I was fortunate to be able to hit the learning curve a little sooner than most high school pitchers,” said Soroka.“I kind of realized that everybody throws hard, everybody has good stuff, it's about how you use it, not just what you have anymore.” Soroka ranks fourth on the Braves' MLB.com top prospect rankings. He entered the season at No.48 on Baseball America's top prospects list and No.66 on MLB.com.Six of Atlanta's top 10 prospects are pitchers, including No.3 Kolby Allard, a 19-year-old left-hander and Soroka's roommate.Baseball wasn't always on Soroka's radar.“I thought I was going to be a goalie in the NHL,” said Soroka, who his followed his hometown Flames when they were making a Stanley Cup run in 2004.THE CANADIAN PRESS/AP/ROGELIO V.SOLIS) “Two of three years after that it kind of wore off but I was already pretty into it.Then by 13, 14, I realized that I didn't love to practise as much as a goalie as I did baseball.” Soroka has stayed close to home in the off-season, training at the Canadian Sport Institute with Stam- peders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell and linebackers Alex Singleton and Deron Mayo. He's also developed a close working relationship and friendship with former major league pitcher Chris Re- itsma, who's been working with Soroka since he was 14.“I feel really connected with him and I can go with him for anything, not just baseball,” Soroka said.“He realizes a lot of the realities in the game of baseball and the business of baseball. He's been extremely helpful and I definitely wouldn't be as knowledgeable or as confident without him.” Soroka's progress this season has led to a spot in the Southern League's all-star game on June 20 game in Pensacola, Fla., along with Allard.for regional development A J Rooted in its environment, the SADC contributes to the development and well-being for that all-star break is going to be unreal and kind of just being able to reset a little bit and stay grounded and go out there and do my thing, that's what I'll need to do.” With both Soroka and Allard in the system, the Braves' starting rotation has a promising future. But Trembley said the franchise will take their time with Soroka.“The era of John Schuerholz (former Braves GM) and Bobby Cox (former Braves manager), they brought up those guys to the big leagues and let them continue their development in the big leagues,” Trembley said.“I don't think we're reluctant to When they're small, keep them safe and report anything that doesn’t look right.Be a soft place to fall, because they will need it.If your spouse isn’t stepping up to the plate on their behalf, talk privately with your spouse about it.If your spouse is resistant to doing anything to change the situation, walk away, because it never gets better. As the saying goes, “you teach people how to treat you.” I get that now! — No Longer a Stepparent Dear No Longer: Though I appreciate your advice to stepparents — and that last bit is one of my favorite axioms — I can’t help but wonder whether your severing ties was a little too severe here. You seem to have a good grasp of the way abuse has affected these children and grandchildren. As long as they are not being verbally abusive to you, perhaps you could practice healthy detachment without completely cutting off all communication. You can build an emotional shield around yourself without having it be a wall.Dear Annie: In response to “Fed Up,” whose co-worker always comments on her meal choices, I'd like to say that it’s quite possible the coworker has an eating disorder. My cousin constantly remarks on my food choices, and I finally realized that her own eating issues are at the heart of her comments and that she is looking for attention about how “healthy” her own food choices are.— Been There Dear Been There: You could very well be right.Rather than be defensive when someone fixates on our food choices, perhaps we should be concerned for the person. To anyone worried about a friend or family member’s eating habits, please visit https://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org.Send your questions for Annie Lane to dear- annie@creators.com."Two honoured 1n SUDOKU DIFFICULTY RATING: %& % ev 4 £a À pa -
