for example, the area of the ‘South Park District is 92.6 square miles.The population of the district is 700,000.The assessed valuation of the property within the district is $300,000,000.In this area there are twenty-three parks and seventeen boulevards.The area of the Parks and the length of the Boulevards now under control of the South Park Commissioners aggregate 2,021.33 acres of parks and 28.48 miles of boulevards—in all an area of 2,423.37 acres, In contrast to the cramped conditions prevailing in Montreal, in each of the ten parks in this district of Chicago there are two indoor gymnasiums— one for men and boys and one for women and girls.equipped with modern apparatus, steel Ans HN NN ~— ee MONTREAL CONTROLLERS SHOULD NOW PROVIDE PARKS AND PLAYGROUNDS FOR THE CHILDREN— HOW THEY DO IT IN CHICAGO—A view of a public swimming bath in a Chicago park.MONTREAL CONTROLLERS SHOULD NOW PROVIDE PARKS AND PLAYGROUNDS FOR THE CHILDREN— HOW THEY DO IT IN CHICAGO—Out-of-door gymnasium, with measured tracks around the edge.ee Ne lockers and ample baths.There are also outdoor gymnasiums or playgrounds, and at least one baseball diamond in each of ten parks.All gymnasiums and playgrounds are in the care of trained instructors, who con- These gymnasiums are A Ne Be a & ;
