Illness.one of the members of the Hon.Mr.DeBoucherville\u2019s Cabinet and was Te- turned by acclamation at thé general election following.Mr.McIntosh was exceedingly popular in Quebec, among his political opponents as well as party friends.\u201d It was here that he gamed the name of \u2018Honest John.\u201d While a firm believer in Conservative principals, his party ties did not destroy his independence.He was often heard in the House, and his views, always received with great attention and respect by both sides.In 1893 Mr.McIntosh was appointed Quebec at the Columbian Exposition, held in Chicago.He performed his important duties in this connection which gained for \u2018him the title of \u201cHonest John\u201d brought within his list of personal friends and admirers men of all sections and classes of the community without regard to poii- tics, race or religion.His passing away will be deeply regretted.Sherbrooke has lost one of its most worthy citizens, the East Townships a man who has done much to promote the agricultural and general welfare, and the Parliament of Canada one ot its most\u2019 honorable members.The funeral will take place \"at 2.30 Friday afternoon from the house to Plymouth Congregational church.\\ Mr.John MeIntosh was born at Laprairie, Que., October 27, 1541, of Scotch parentage.In the fall of 1860, in company with his \u2018parents, he came to Compton and settled on a farm about one and a half files north of Waterville, and his father, John Me- Intosh, sr., lived there for twenty- brooke, where he resided up to the time of his death, which took place in 1894, while on a visit to Montreal.Mr.McIntosh received his education at.Laprairie High School and became efficient in \u2018French as well as \u2018English.In his early.manhood he followed farming in Compton county.On the establishment of the with headquarters at Sherbrooke, in 1875, he became connected with ithat company, having full charge ot selecting and buying all cattle required for the operations of the company.After the [dissolution of this company.Mr.Mefntosh entered largely into the export of cattle for the English market.Mr.McIntosh was a member of the Compton municipal council for six for ten years, also, a member of the Board of School (pmmissioners.five years, and then removed to Sher- Canadian Meat and Produce Company | years, and\u2019 of the Waterville Council | In 1886 he was first elected as the.with marked ability.The skill with which he organized the Quebec hibit gave it a conspicuous place in \u201cthe exposition and\u2019 brought important trade results te this province.On returning from\" Chicago Mr.McIntosh was tendered a public b nquet in Montreal in recognition of his services.In 1894 Mr.McIntosh became sheriff of St.Francis District, succeeding the late Jos.L.Terrill.He resigned his position in the = Quebec) Cabinet and removed to Sherbrooke, where he since resided.He filled his new office with ability up till Decom- ber, 1899, when he resigned to become the Conservative standard bearer in - the the vacancy caused by the death \u2018of the Hon.W.B.Ives.The campaign was a hard one and Mr.\u201d McIntosh entered into it with his usual 'determination and energy.His illness dated from that hard-fought campaign.and took his seat as member for Sherbrooke in the House of Commons.He address the House a few days alter taking his seat.Mr.McIntosh was again electad member for Sherbrooke at the general elections in the fall of 1900,though himself absent from the county, being at a \u2018health resort in the south.Since then, in spite of - poor health, his constituency.Mr.McIntosh for five.years was President of the \u2018Eastern Townships Agricultural \u201cAssociation.The growth and prosperity- of the
