la deuxième fois.En janvier 2011, il avait séjourné dans cet État d'Amérique du Sud pendant une bonne dizaine de jours en compagnie de quinze autres élèves.Une dizaine de ces étudiants ainsi que Mme Poirier et M.Beaudin ont rencontré The Gleaner\\La Source il ya quelques jours dans la cafétéria de l'école pour lui raconter les faits marquants de leur voyage.Les élèves ont déboursé environ 1 700$ pour effectuer ce séjour en sol guatémal- tèque, même s'ils avaient initialement prévu y verser environ 3 000$.Les fonds ont été recueillis de toutes sortes de façons.Le groupe a organisé un souper- bénéfice le 26 octobre à l'école et un tournoi de golf le 29 septembre au club de golf de Saint-Anicet.Des étudiants ont aussi recueilli des sous en tenant un lave-autos et une vente de débarras et en vendant des friandises glacées.Une subvention du ministère de l'Education du Québec a permis de défrayer les prix des billets d'avion.Pendant leur séjour à Ciudad Vieja, petite localité sise près d'Antigua, une des principales villes du pays, les participants se sont livrés à diverses tâches.Ils ont pris part à la construction d'un mur de sécurité dans une cour d'école pour la protéger des éboulements.Ils ont aussi servi du pain et du café aux familles qui venaient inscrire leurs jeunes enfants dans l'établissement.De plus, ils se sont aussi rendus dans des garderies pour prendre soin des tout-petits de deux a cing ans.Au village où ils étaient de passage, les participants étaient hébergés par des familles, à raison de deux par foyer.Les étudiants ont dit avoir été immédiatement charmés et impressionnés par leurs hôtes, en dépit des conditions matérielles ainsi que des us et des coutumes différentes des leurs.«Nous étions dans des familles de classe moyenne.Ils ont quand même heureux avec ce qu'ils possèdent chez eux.Ce sont des gens simples et chaleureux, toujours de bonne humeur», estime Chrystel Brisson.Chaque jour, les étudiants travaillaient de 8h à midi avant de revenir chez leurs hôtes pour dîner Ils se levaient chaque matin vers six heures pour se rendre vaquer à leurs occupations.Durant la première portion de leur séjour, les étudiants se sont familiarisés avec l'espagnol.Pendant quelques jours, ils ont reçu des leçons d'apprentissage de cette langue, sous l'égide d'un professeur privé.«Nous avons eu pour 20 heures de cours d'espagnol», a précisé Mme Poirier.«C'était difficile de communiquer avec nos hôtes parce qu'ils ne parlaient ni français ni anglais.Souvent, nous communiquions par signes pour mieux se faire comprendre les uns les autres.Mais avec les notions d'espagnol qui nous ont été données, les échanges étaient plus faciles», a confié Catherine Maheu.Durant le voyage, les étudiants ont pu jouer les touristes.Ils ont pris le temps de se rendre jusqu'aux abords de la montagne Pacaya, où un important volcan a fait irruption en 2010, à 2 500 mètres d'altitude.Ces adolescents sont rentrés chez eux transformés à la suite de ce
