Lennon and once more knot the score. The final five minutes were composed of some of the most hcetic hockey yet seen.It was an orgy of hard checking fast skating and miraculous saving in which the first penalties of the game were meted out.It ended when Bernier scored again with hut a minute to play on a whirlwind attack on the academy citadel. The Old Boys had to work hard to get this 3-2 win and coach Brennon was more than pleased with the showing of his lads.“If a man wants to marty he should make a little money first,” says a magistrate.Afterwards he'll have a little money Saturday's matches, deapite the fact that all three games were of a decidedly crucial “nature, an illustration of what drab climax usually attends our Canadian rugby season Football playoffs are seldom what they should be, and a hard driving team in early November is apt to took like a blundering squad when the Dacamber frost gets a grip on its players.Examples of this were shown last weekend when eliminations in three divisions were held on ice bound gridirons, conditions that detract from good play and present hazards for the rugbyists.Rugby football was but an echo of its former self in last Saturday's There is mo telling what will happen when number fingers stretch cut to grasp the ball, and fumbles invariably play a big part in deciding the outcome of these late season games: Varsity Stadium was packed to capacity on more than one occasion during the Autumn, twenty thousand people being in the- stands as Queens and Varsity went to the mat, and the same attendance was re- conded when the Hamilton Tigers took the measure of the Intercollegiate winners, Queens. The Eastern senior final last week had an appeal for the die-hards only, for rigorcus weather cut deeply in the seat sale, and less than half the former number were on hand when the game got underway.Rugby is a lot of fun taken at the proper time, but once the monotonous grind for both players and spectators, with an element of luck very often deciding who will be the Dominion champion.Hardest Job Getting Past Montreal Getting past the local teams in the intermediate battle for Canadian football supremacy seems to be about the toughest battle hat Eastern teams have to contend with these days. This argument has been strongly brought out again this season, Royal Military College being the mighty force that threatens to land on top in the intermediate play-downs.The soldier boys from Kingston had a pretty tough job on their hands in getting Canadian National out of the way, but last Saturday it was plain sailing for them.A 23-1 count in a play-off is a pretty steep score, and that is how the “Gentlemen Cadets” trouced the Oshawa Blue Devils in the Kinzston snow on Saturday.Last year it was the same old story, Westward fighting tooth and nail to nose out Canadian Naticnal in the Quabec Rugby Football Union, then to go through the same procedure against the machine-like squad that R.M.C.stacked up against them. That final game against the Om- tario champions, Sarnia, was little more than a workout when compared to the previous matches they had to go through to reach the final.Montrealers Active Down on the Farm There are a lot of Montrealers following the movements of the Windsor Bulldogs in the International Hockey League this year, and the showing of former Montreal men with that minor club has hecy gratifying to date.Clint Benedict is in the nets, a Montreal trio, Earl Robinson, Wes King ani Lorne Duguid is on the forward kine, with Batt Phillips and Baldy Northcott, Maroon subs of last season who were farmed out to Herb Mitchell’s club with Benedict, Robinson and Phillips, Earl Robinson in particular has been going great guns, and the Western Ontario press reports have been ringing with his praises. Here is what Dick Gibson has to say of Robinson in his column in the Border City Star: “Earl Robinson, freckle-faced Huckleberry Finn-like young man who plays centre ice for the Bulldogs, scored only five of the eight goals as Windsor club plays 4-4 overtime ties in Pittsburgh and Cleveland on two successive nights this week.We undertook, in a rash moment, to explain to the public just how it happened that he made such a miserable showing. So here’s the alibi, whether it goes over or not. When Robinson started the game against the Yellow Jackets on Tuesday night he was quite a noumal, healthy, young athlete—afflicte ed with nothing but a few freckles. But, later in the evening, Mr.Atrhur Berlet, who draws a salary from Pittsburgh for shoving a puck with a stick, used that piece of hickory for other purposes. He brought it down, first, across Friend Earl's right hand.À padded glove saved the hand, but it hasn't felt the same since.Earl finished the game, but he was so upset about that wallop that he scored only one goal, instead of four or five.Trainer Banks taped the injured mitt up before the Cleveland game of Wednesday night and what does Mr.Robinson do but go out and “hog” the whole show— getting credit for four goals to tie the Indians single-handed’ All kidding aside, few of his owm team-mates knew that Robinson was playing with such a badly crippled hand.He struggled through the Pittsburgh game but the hand stiffened overnight and at Cleveland he could not put any “zip” behind a shot that had to travel as much as ten feet.Every goal he scored was literally cavried into the cage guarded by Baxter—and that little blond kid is no cinch for anybody to heat. What might have happenei if Earl lad been quite fit you'll have to speculate about. All we contracted to do was to farnish his «loi for failing to get more than five goals in two games.” Cocktail De kame London—The perfect cocktail is to make an appearance in London. The first international cocktail competition to be held in Great Britain Pink Revoir."Un,
