commercial, flight crew members, subject to a long-standing rule that a, crew member must refrain from any activity which might fatigue him at the commencement of his tour of duty.Factors governing limitations of flying times are: type of aircraft, equipment and crew complement; frequency of takeoffs and landings (especially tiring), times of arrivals and departures; route flown; rest and relief facilities: the probability of operational delays.it is interesting to note that the DOT now defines flight time in the sime way as commercial airlines, i.e.“block-to-block™, or the time from the moment the aircraft first moves, although on the ground.until the time it comes to rest at the end of the flight.Flight time of a flight crew member shall not exceed 120 hours in any month ‘calendar month of 24 hows per day).300 hours in any quarter, or 1.200 hours in any year.No member May exceed 15 hours in any day unless the crew includes three or more pilots, two of whom are qualified to act as pilot-in-command, and flight relief facilities are available for each member relieved. No member may have more than 12 consecutive hours flight deck duty time, anc the flight duty time may not exceed 24 hours. As with all regulations, certain exceptions are listed. The above limitations may be extended if the aircraft is engaged in search and rescue or the provision of relief in cases of distress, or when operational conditions are forced beyond limitations to complete a flight.Rest periods must be at least eight consecutive hours unless an earlier departure would not jeopardize the safety of the opera- Lion.+ » * Statistics show that 7.5 percent of all light aircraft accidents are caused by crosswind landings.A table has been made available listing the acceptable and there are jobs in Westmount which they could fill.During this week Westmounters are asked to make an extra special effort to find or offer jobs to handicapped neighbors.Three weeks ago we ran a story on Westmounter Jack Featherstone, a cerebral palsy victim since birth.Jack has more than his share of brains, guts and perseverance. Not only is he above average in both education and charm, he is reliable. Two weeks ago we ran an article written by Jack about Selby street on which he has lived since childhood. We think this story showed sufficient sprightliness, humor and talent for Jack to be encouraged to continue his study of writing and to seek work in the writing field. He is not aspiring too high in trying to get a job reading copy, we are sure.We hoped that our story and his article would prompt someone in Westmount whose place of business is not too far from Selby street taxi-farewise to offer Jack a Job utilizing his special skills. If you cannot hire Jack, then there are other handicapped Jacks and Janes in Westmount whose skills you can use.If you are in the market for help, consider the handicapped in Westmount. You can learn about them from NES.There is an advantage to a handicapped person in getting a job close to home.We believe you will find there are advantages too in hiring handicapped persons who live close to your place of business.Call NES and inquire. There is no obligation and you may be doing yourself a favor as well as helping a handicapped person to self-respect and self-support.a » #8" THEY YOU SAY Wants Westmount fo use teletype Sir: must admit that fluoridation will not provide benefits to dental cripples, because fluoridation is a preventative, not a medication. It does not cure dental diseases.“However, with the improvement of water supplies by fluoridation, we can expect: first, a tremendous increase in the number of children having no decayed teeth, second, a (wo-third de- Goodwill missions need for Thailand VICTORIA (CP) — People an Southeast Asia are catching up on social advances.says Hugh Chris: tie, warden at Oakalla Prison farm.Mr.Christie, who travelled to Thailand for the United Nations, urged the Provincial Council of Women recently to do without a few luuries, to scrimp and save and then set out as individual ambassadors to Southeast Asia to spread goodwill and knowledge.Mr.Christie said Southeast Asians look to Canadians as a superior people but that they are catching up in social advance.“We're got to work and make sure our teen-agers work and use we'll be left behind and they'll be showing us the way.” crease in the decayed — missing-¥ and-filling rate; third, 75 per cent first permanent molars lost: and fourth, 95 per cent less cavities in the frontal teeth.“All of this makes treatment easier for both the patient and the dentist, reduces the need for extensive and often painful treatments for the very young and aids in preventing the premature loss of teeth which is the chief cause of irregular crooked tecth and adult dental cripples.” Dr.McCabe said that fluoridation has been tested over more than 20 years of study and research; more than any other pub- + “Those who appose it.’ he said.“are in the same class with those who opposed pasteurization, vaccination, chlorination and filtration.” The practice is recommended and endorsed by the Department of National Health and Welfare, the Canadian Medical, the Canadian Dental and the Canadian Public Health Associations and by the World Health Organizations of the United Nations.Galveston, Texas, was the first The Westmount Examiner, Fridey.Mey 12, 196) all their leisure time profitably or.Two cab drivers row over ‘’load‘’ ; M cost à taxi driver $5 in costs Wednesday to find he was erred [in charging another cabbie with illegally picking up passengers 10 Westmount. The complainant was in the number one position on the Veterans Cab stand alongside the Avenue Theatre on Sunday, April 16, when a Veterans Cab drew up before the theatre and discharged pase.sengers.Instead of moving on, the alien cab remained stopped at the curb for several minutes, A man came out of the theatre with two companions and gut into the cab in front of the theatre. The Westmount licensed cab drew up alongside the stranger in town and challenged him.The stranger thought the West.; mount cabdriver was joking, so he says, and he says he joked back, Do you want this load?” "Then he drove off, telling the other chap to charge him. After much excited bilingual palaver between the defendant, the complainant and the complainant’s witness, another Westmount : cab aviver, the défendant produced his witness with Gallic bravo. His pasenger, à quiet convincing gentleman with à twinkling eye, swore he took the Montreal cab to the theatre.stopped over fur a few minutes and then continued ' lic health measure has ever re-| U.S.city to try the commission on in the same cab as part of ceived.form of government.the same trip. Not gzualty spiritual image and likeness.” bargains ! LA _ TTL M LE; u “lo GAM POLLOCK, who has come a long way up the hockey ladder, and who is now the big man behind most of Canadiens Hockey Club farm systems, couldn’t have spoken truer words at the presentation banquet of the Metro Junior Hockey League. He remarked, as he glanced around the banquet hall at the Queen’s Hotel, that Metro club coaches and members of the club managements were at one time playing the game of hockey that they now serve in another manner. To mention two, Buddy O'Connor, coach of Verdun Maple Leafs; Pete Morin, Lachine’s club president.* + + LET'S GO A LITTLE further, Phil Dalgliesh, coach of the La- chine Maroons.Phil never played the big cime but he had it pretty rough in the minor pro leagues where he played for Portland and other clubs on the west coast.Phil started his playing on Verdun rinks, so did Buddy. The point that Sam wanted to bring to the attention of the 225 persons was that they were still with the game.It also showed that this sort of thing can go on and on.It's nice to have such guys taking up the game ‘hat at one time gave them a living, at least a start, now are working to keep the game alive with the juniors.* + + LOOKING BACK on the youngsters playing hockey today, sons of famous NHL stars, it seems that their names will live on for many years to come.To mention a few, Red Storey's son; Doug Harvey, Elmer Lach, Ken Mosdell, Gerry Heffernan and Maurice Richard's boy. There must be quite a few more if you want to take a few hours and consult the records.* LS + It has been a few years since players like Marshall, Richard, Boom Boom and Big Jean that make thousands cheer as they score goals or make fine plays, have come up through the junior ranks. The ranks have been lean but maybe that cycle has been reached as we take a look at youngsters of today who will be stars of the future.+ * ¥* ANOTHER POINT is the men behind the clubs. It’s the pro clubs who gain the benefit on the long run.Except for a small tribute paid to the management of amateur clubs, they are soon forgotten as the club carries on, and the lucky player goes on to the top.»* æ æ IT'S BEEN LIKE that for some years now and we don’t suppose it will change in my time or in my son's time. The system of gaining players for pro clubs is here to stay.It does cost the big clubs dough.but it's a gamble they take to get the big one, the one that will pay off dividends.+ + * FEAR TO GROUND REMEMBER PETER LINDSAY, who played for NDG Monarchs Metro junior team ?He made it at McGill as an engineer.Peter now gets around in a wheel chair. He was injured in a hockey game by a check that is seen hundreds of times, and no one gets hurt.Credit goes out to Peter from his many hockey fans for the will and spirit to get what he wanted, a graduate of McGill with a degree.¥» - » Jim Tsoncs, who resides on Victoria avenue, will walk the alsle on Saturday. He was stagged by many of his friends last week .Another of Jim's pals, Derek Wyles, who now resides in Toroate was stagged (we weeks age and married the next day. What a week-end ?1 ITTY?0m LLL LL Ld Al Grout, Medek named te beach club Cameron Grout.member of Canada’s 1960 Olympic swimming team, and Frank Medck.program | director of the East End Boys The Westmount Examiner, Fridey.Mey 12, 196) LCC to fete ‘61 ski teams The President and Executive 19 Westmount YMCA sweeps foil event Westmount YMCA made a clean sweep of ile Quebec ‘A’ Class foil Club, have been named to the Committee of the Old Boys’ Asso- | championship for men winning the staff of the Seigniory Park Beach Club in Chateauguay.Grout will supervise the aquatic program at the new Olympic size pool.Medek, who has been granted a leave of absence from the East End club, will be managing director of the Seigniory operation. The 50 metre pool is equipped to handle all international com- | petition.Diving facilities range!
