of the Pontiac Rural Telephone Company. These included a recommendation to the new Directors that tenders should be called for with regard to the positions of Manager, Secretary-Treasurer and Chief Operators. At present the Manager is Charles Russell, the Secretary-Treasurer is Mr.Cuthbertson and the Chief Operator is Miss Gertrude Armstrong.None of these people have signified in any way that they would not continue in their present positions.Whatever purpose could be gained by asking for tenders at this time is questionable.A comparison of salaries paid here and elsewhere would indicate that the Pontiac Rural Telephone Company is already getting excellent value for its money in the case of both Secretary-Treasurer and Chief Operator and.as everyone knows, the manager who is also the chairman of the Board of Directors, acts without remuneration. If the directors act upon this recommendation it is more than likely that the tenders they receive will request higher salaries than are now being paid and they will thus be increasing their costs and at the same time broadening the gap of understanding between themselves and the non-union members of their staff.Since the motion was only a recommendation it can be hoped that the directors in their wisdom will weigh the advantages and disadvantages of the move and decide against it.ne ot some $' *w : to the to the Trans-Canada
