Pontiac, the marking of Boy Scout week (Feb.7 to 13) might well be used by many of to re-examine our position in the Scouting movement. For most boys it fills an urgent need which cannot be met in any other way. This, we suppose is the reason for the astronomical figures of enrollment around the world. The movement here has been in a decline for the past several years, for a variety of reasons, which added together have slowly, but surely, cut the effectiveness of scouting activities in the County. It is pointless to rehash our past errors and ommissions on this score. The thing to do is to realize that Scouting has suffered a decline in Pontiac, and set about to reverse this trend. There are Scout troops in only two centers — Shawville and Bryson. There should be troops Quyon, Campbell’s Bay and Fort Coulonge — and quite probably in Ladysmith and Otter Lake.Guidance in setting up a troop can be obtain-edfrom the District Commissioner, Ken Mus-grove.Backing for a troop must come from a local Group Commttee, made up of interested residents of the area in which the troop is being established.Running of the troop should be placed in the hands of a responsible adult sincerely interested in the welfare of boys, and preferably but not necessarily with some previous Scouting experience. All of these things could be done in the centres mentioned above. This is the week in which they should be given serious thought — and action.us equal In that field to that experienced by cities like Toronto and Montreal.Besides it would be the first phase of a great the chartered Banks were forced into a loan freeze by the Bank of Canada, the governor treated this serious situation, that was known and felt by every man woman and child, in a very light manner, by claiming it to be a lot of gossip, this strategy he used to eliminate the interest suddenly arroused by the thinking people of this country.• The thousands of people who could not get money even bringing the matter of dbgs at large in Shawville to the attention of Council; and to Council itself for taking such prompt action to correct the situation.CHAMBER OF COMMERCE Response to the editorial in The Equity regarding the formation of a Chamber of Commerce was sufficiently strong that it has been decided to go ahead and call a preliminary meeting.Accordingly, there will be a meeting held at Pontiac House at 8:15 next Tuesday night, February 16 for the purpose of establishing a Chamber of Commerce to serve Shawville and District.Because of the fact that a fairly large group is requred as charter members, everyone interested in seeing a Chamber of Commerce established here is asked to attend the meeting.with it again Yours sincerely, Elwyn Hodgins still prepared on
