Bakery, and the photograph from Emard Photos which will be published in The Equity next week.Sylvia Schroeder is Miss 1967 in Pontiac County having made her first appearance in this world at 5.29 Sundav mornring, January first in this Centennial Year of Canada’s Confederation, assisted by Dr.Frank Cowley, who has been ushering in “first babies" for the past several years.Sylvia is the daughter of Mr.and Mrs.Rudy Schroeder, the former Thelma Thoms of Ladysmith.Mr.and Mrs.Schroeder were married on June 28, 1950 and Sylvia is their first child. She came into a friendly corner of this world by being born in the Pontiac Community Hospital in Shawvillc where a number of the town's merchants have already presented Sylvia with gifts in honor of her being the first baby of the year.A second baby was born on New Year's Day at Porrtiac Community Hospital. This was a son for Mr.and Mrs.Dale Hérault of Davidson.Mrs.Her.ult is the former Leona Bell of Shawvillc and her husband works at the new mill site in Litchfield. For Leona and Dale their New Year’s baby rounds out the family to two boys and two girls. The Schroedvns arc farmers nnd Rudy ako works out at carpentry, truck driving, at the saw mill or wherever else he can find work. They were most appreciative of the various items received from Shawvillc merchants, including the tiny baby corsage and beautiful flowers from Hardy Plants, the case of groceries from Langford’s Grocery, the case of baby food from the IGA, the baby blanket and rattle from Dean and Merritts, the subscription to The Equity from the Printshop.the nylon gown from Kays’ Style Shoppe, the engraved baby cup frem Me- The bells of St.George.» and the bells of St.John's rang a hundred times each at ( amp-bell's Bay at midnight December 31, 1966 which brought the New Centennial Year into Pontiac County to the united sounds of catholic and protestant chimes. The excitement of the ushering in of this new year of hope spilled over into the square at the station where an ammassed pile c C hristmas trees was nited uy Pontiac's Provincial Member, the Honorable Ray JohrMon.The trucks of L & M Electronics, Gary Hearty of Vinton and others collected the trees Saturday afternoon; ( Ictus Ferrigan and Jo jo McGahren went t0 Haley's Staton to get fireworks; Harold Wilson donated three gallons of gas to get the bonfire started; Ed Ranger and Irvine Cahill were among the many organizers; Joseph Dominic Sloan was the man behind the whole venture; sirens of the Ringrose Ambulance, the Pontiac Bus Lines, Pilon s tow truck and the Quebec Provincial Police.Campbell's Bay Detachment were sounded—and after the siren wails had died down, and the church hells were still counting out their one hundred peals, choral singing was performed by a group of youngsters under the direction of Clctus Ferrigan and to the great enjoyment of an entire town of spectators.Pontiac County Sheriff Joseph Dominic Sloan, accompanied by Joseph Dominic Sloan jr who is two years old, will he among the thousands from this County who will attend the World’s Fair in* Montreal this summer. But the Sheriff and son will not be driving down or taking the train and also unlike most other FJftPO visitors this pair will take along their dog and two bush hoses Whatever else Joe takes down to EXPO will depend largely upon the readers of The Equity who are invited to let him have any suggestions they might have. The trip will be by covered wagon, which Joe has planned to build himself, with whatever help anyone wants to give him.Starting at the farm of Mrs.Sylvester Sloan in Vinton, which is the birthplace of his own father.the Sheriff hopes to take a swing up to the top of this County before setting towards Montreal so that each of the Mayors of Pontiac can have an opportunity to travel wüh him for a part of the journey.Finantial assistance for the trip will be accepted from any sflf’ce.Already certain encour-agmnent and promises have come forth from such place* as the Royal Bank in Shawville, Ken Griffin’s store in Bryson, Lloyd Ker.sley in Campbell’s Bay who has donated space in his implement garage to build -the wagon and Harold Wilson who has offered the loan of a set of harness. The Equity will help in every way possible with the whole venture and will keep everyone posted as to progress as progress is made towards its completion County Council will be solicited for funds to help the project and anyone wishing to help Live music meets approval of large audience at
