[" THE SHAWVILLE-CLARENDON FREE MUNICIPAL LIBRARY WILL BE OPEN FROM 10 to 11 A.M.SATURDAY IN SHAWVILLi TOWN HAIL fCFLLOTRSWTü fJLTJ 170( HUE SAINT DENIS MONTREAL.QUEBEC v 3K6 098V ?VOICE OF THE PONTIAC SINCE 1883 Shawville, Quebec, Canada, Wednesday, August 2, 1978 No.27, 95th Year 20 cents The Twelfth was really \u201cGlorious cc August 15th at Ladysmith > Saturday, July 15, Ladysmith Loyal Orange Lodge, assisted by the Ladies Orange Lodge, and the Loyal Orange Young Britons hosted the Annual Orange Celebration.41 Ivodges attended from Pontiac County, Montreal, Lachute, Quebec and several visiting lodges from Renfrew, Lanark and Carleton County for a total of 2500 participants.The weatherman cooperated with a hot sunny day and a cool breeze.The theme of this year\u2019s celebration was \u201cOne Canada, A dominion, from Sea to Sea.\" This theme was illustrated on the six floats entered in the parade, and on the two archs erected over the gateways.Over 1200 meals were served for dinner which commenced at 11:00 a m.Many families brought their picnic baskets and enjoyed their lunch under the shade trees.At noon the speeches began with Bro Wm Lang as M.C.Councillor, Harold Schock represented Thorne Council and brought greetings.Most Wor.Bro T.Raymond Reside, Grand Master of Canada, was the guest speaker and spoke on National Unity.Other speakers included Rt Wor.Bro Nelson Davis, Grand Master Ontario East.L.O.L.Fred Alexander, Grand Master Grand Blackchapter Ontario East.Rt Wor Bro Everett Arthurs spoke on behalf of the Grand Orange Lodge of Quebec.The lodges assembled for the parade at 1:00 pm and moved off at 2:00 pm under the directions of the County Marshalls Bro Leo Burgess and Bro Sterling Tubman tradionally mounted on the white horse, suitably decorated for the occasion.Other Ontario Lodges brought along their own horses to lead their respective lodges.There were two bugle bands, one accordian band, and several fife and drum bands to entertain during the day.One of the high lites was the Lamplighter Bugle Band from Smith Falls.Six plaques were given out to the following lodges: Float Award - Campbell's Bay, L.O.L.Ward - Smith Falls, L.O.B.A.Award - Alice Pembroke, J.O.L.Award - Charteris, O.Y.B.Award - Ladysmith.Ten teams entered the tug a war contest.The champs were the Ladysmith Sportmcns Club.Races were held for children of all ages and each received a ribbon and prize money.The day closed with a dance in the TCRA.If attendance and enthusiasm were any indications, it was a most eventful and successful celebration.God Save The Queen.I v \\ t * « apt.> ' \"1 p S, rn XM f4 V ta XT k ve t *v and Renovation ÉM fl® & B v % v rJ dal r- S» s»xuï i mRF* roi 5% > f r\\daS \u2019 .6 children Geraldine, Dora, Faye, Nancy, Jane, Bernard, John, Kenneth, Sheila, Jason, Sheri, Joanne, Linda and Christine.A SSF The Lamothes first settled this farm on Calumet Island in the 1860\u2019s, and more than 80 of them returned in force over the weekend, coming from all parts of Canada.Shown in this picture amongst all their relatives are Gerald and Lena Lamothe, the present owners of the farm and their brothers and sisters - Herbie, Irene, Wilfred, Gilbert, May, Dora, Eva, Evelyn, Leonard and El wood, and their children and grand NOTICE! VICTORIA and PPHS GRADUATION PHOTOS ARE READY.i i Pontiac Protestant School Board Can be picked up at EVA ANDAI STUDIO 140 Calumet St., Shawville SPORTS DEPARTMENT Rods, Reels, Lines, Lures, Etc.Minutes of a regular meeting of the Council of Commissioners of the Protestant School Municipality of Pontiac held in the Board Room of the McDowell Elementary School, Shaw ville, Quebec, at 2000 hrrs on July 26th, 1978 with the following Commissioners present: Messrs W Lang, R MacKechnie, G Pirie, W Kilgour, A Brown, W M Hayes, L Neville, G Eades, sitting under the chairmanship of Mr B Quaile.The Assistant Director General and Secretary General were also present.Mr Connelly, the Auditor was in attendance.It was moved by Comm Neville and adopted unanimously that the minutes of the meeting of June 28 as circulated be adopted.Tenders for supplying of fuel oil for 78-79 were opened and discussed.Resolution 551- It was moved by Comm Kilgour and adopted that the Tender of Imperial Oil Limited for the supply of ifuel oil for the 78-79 school year, be accepted.Resolution 552- It was moved by Comm MacKechnie and adopted unanimously that the following teachers be offered a teaching position for the 78-79 school year: Miss Margaret Segul, Mrs Mary Charron, Mrs Margaret Hodgins (Reg.PT 50%).Resolution 553- Attendu que la commission scolaire a déjà accepté par résolution un budget d'immobilisations pour l'exercise financier 1978-79.Attendu qu'il y a nécessité d'amender cette résolution No.535 du Avril 26e, 1978.Il est proposé par Comm Pirie.Que la distribution des dépenses pour 78-79 soit modifiée ainsi: Dépenses prévues- 4.Programmes spéciaux, 4.4 Distribution du lait 2079.5.Autres priorités- 5.1 Mobilier, appareillage et outillate 5.1.1 régulier 6620, 5.2 Projets à caractère physique, 5.2.1 régulier 15247, 5.2.2 éducation physique 3310.Sous total 25147, 5.2.2 éducation physique 3310, Sous total 25177, Grand total 27256.Resolution 554 Attendu qu'il y a lieu de pourvoir au financement d'immobilisations pour l'exercise financier 1978-79; Attendu que la commission scolaire ne peut acquitter les dépenses di-dessous énumérées à moins d'avoir recours à un emprunt à long terme; En conséquence, le commissaire Eades propose qu'une résolution soit adoptée à cette fin, et qu'il soit énoncé par cette résolution ce qui suit: Article 1:\tLe Conseil des commissaires de la commission scolaire Pontiac Protestante ordonne, par la présente, l'exécution au cours de l'année 1978-79 des travaux ci-bas mentionnés dont la somme prévue se chiffre à $27,256.00.Article 4.4 distribution du lait $2079.Article 5 autres priorités 25177.Total $27256.Article 2: Le Conseil des commissaires s oblige en outre àcontracter, pour les fins susdites, un emprunt maximum de $28000 tel qu'il est établi ci dessous, en monnaie ayant cours légal au Canada, à un taux d'intérêt ne dépassant pas 10% l'an, devant être amorti sur une période de dix ans et à réaliser ledit emprunt au moyen d'une émission d\u2019obligations jusqu\u2019à consurerence dudit montant.Total des dépenses en immobilisations détaillées à l'article 1.$27256.Plus: Eviron 4% pour les frais d\u2019émission 744.Montant à emprunter $28000.Resolution 555 Attendu que la résolution approuvant le budget d'immobilisations 1978-79 a été modifiées en date du Juillet 26e, 1978, pour un montant révisé à $27,256.00.Attendu que la commission scolaire a adopté une résolution d'emprunt à long terme au montant de $28,000.00 dans le but de financer ces différents travaux: (résolution No.554).Attendu qu'il sera urgent de faire exécuter ces travaux dès l'approbation officielle du Ministre;
