tables, which are subject to change.These were as follows: Dresses, Mrs.Fuller, M r s.Gavin, Mrs.Morrill, Mrs.Alexander: children's wear, Mrs.Campbell, Mrs.P.Smith, Mrs.Pierce, Mrs.Hardy, Mrs.Gunter and Mrs.Walker; shoes, Mrs.Hannan, Mrs.Lemoine; hats, Mrs.Cripps, Mrs.Frank, Mrs.Wintle; kitchen.Mrs.Ewing.Mrs.Dunn; nearly new, Mrs.Spence, Mrs.Curtis, Mrs.Pope, Mrs.N ourse and Mrs.Fletcher; variety, Mrs.Converse, Mrs.Nixon; treasurer, Mrs Beattie; advertising, Mrs.MacNaughton, Mrs.Fuller; collecting, Mrs.Nourse, Mrs.Converse, Mrs.Gunter, Mrs.Beattie and Mrs.MacNaughton.Correspondence consisted of thank-you notes from the sick and shut-ins and a letter from Provincial Chapter regarding the delegate to the National meeting.It was decided that the provincial president be nominated as delegate.The treasurer\u2019* report showed a substantial balance, with a 11 bills paid, Fifth-eight copies of \u201cEchoes\u201d were reported ordered and the bill paid.The convener of services at home and abroad asked for donation*, to be brought in at the next meeting, for the box to go to the St.Hyacinthe .Annex of St.Anne's Military' Hospital.Cigarettes, gum.cards, puzzles, heanies or pocket-novels are acceptable.The wool convener reported 33 articles shipped in April and another shipment almost ready.Mrs.Smith has wool on hand for any willing knitters.The child and family welfare convener reported the milk for pupils at St.Francis School had been discontinued until next fall.Ten dollars was voted to each of the following funds:- Convention Fund.Korean Relief Fund and Montreal Children\u2019s Hospital.Miss Siemy Stelwagen, of St.Francis High School, read an essay she had written, entitled \u201cMy Choice.\u201d A native of Holl and, gave the reasons which would prompt her to choose Canadian citizenship when she reached 21.She was thanked by Mrs.MacNaughton.GEN-RAL NOTES Mr.and Mrs.Borden Parsons, St.Johns, were weekend guests of Mr.and Mrs.E.G.Sims.Recent guests of Hooker and his late wife, Mc-j linda Rolfe.On Oct.14, 1925, he was united in marriage to Alice Carlson of Bishopton, who survives him.He also leaves numerous relatives.Mr.Hooker spent his ent i r e life in Dudswell and Bishopton.The funeral was held on May 1 at the Church of the Good Shepard here, Rev.C.S.Brett Perring officiating.Two favorite hymns were sung by the choir, Abide with Me and Lead Kindly Light.Bearers were Ernest Bennett, Keith Bennett, Ralph Gilbert, Douglas Bishop, Horace Ainsworth and Cyril Rolfe, all close friends of the deceased.The floral offerings were numer o u s and beautiful, testifying to t h e high esteem in which Mr.Hooker was held.Interment was in the fam i 1 y lot in Lakeside Cemetery.There was a large attendance of relatives and friends from Ottawa, Montreal, Sherbrooke, Derby Line.Vt., Hatley.Bury, Brookbury, Magog, Foster, Saw-yervitle, Lennoxville, East Angus and Richmond.RH BLOOD FACTOR NEED NOT TERRIFY PROSPECTIVE PARENTS Several puzzled or distressed parents or prospective parents, have inquired about the meaning of the Rh factor of the blood and about a kind of jaundice in infants known as erythroblastosis.Complicated as this subject is, I shall try to give it quick rundown.First, the Rh factor is an obscure substance which is present in the blood of some people and not in others.It can be tested for and today it is almost always in-i eluded in examination of the blood, particularly of prospective parents.Certain unfortunate combina-i lions of Rh factor ih the parents | may result in miscarriage, or the | disease of infants known as ery-! throblastosis fetalis.The Rh factor is complicated by !the fact that it consists of several types.Stated most simply, however, 87 per cent of us have an obscure substance in our blood which classifies us as being Rh positive.The other 13 per cent are called Rh negative.Those with this type of blood can become sensitive to Rh positive blood with possible dangers not only in pregnancy, but also from blood transfusion.If a woman has Rh negative blood and becomes pregnant with an Rh positive child (because the father is Rh positive), the child may be stillborn or have erythroblastosis fetalis.However, this does not always occur.The first child is usually healthy (and often later ones) unless the mother has previously received blood transfusions with Rh positive blood.And this is becoming rare due to greater care in giving transfusions.Furthermore, only about one woman in 25 or 50 with Rh negative blood and an Rh positive husband gives birth to a baby with j erythroblastosis.It should be pointed out also that even if a child does have erythroblastosis, much can often be done by giving blood transfusions after birth.Three-fourths of the infants with crythroblas-tosis formerly died, but now nine out of ten can be saved with the j right kind of transfusions.To summarize the situation: If both parents are Rh positive there is little to worry about.If the | mother is Rh positive and the father Rh negative, there is nothing to worry about.If the mother is Rh negative and the father Rh positive occasional trouble can be anticipated.Although erythroblastosis in an infant is a serious thing indeed, one should remember that the possibilities of its development can be anticipated if the blood of the parents has been tested.Much can be done for it by blood trans-| fusions if identified promptly.There are also many infants who develop jaundice for short periods of time who do not have erythroblastosis.It is wise, therefore, to use appropriate precautions rather than to become panicky about the possibilities.GOLD! k I WISH Hé- V.'.r.l'lT >3 TJAT EVEiN T;ME X SAWN.LIVING IN A DEMOCRACY MEANS WE ARE FREE TO DO AS WE LIKE!
