disorder, during and after the game, prevailed here yesterday as Sherbrooke Notre Dame uncorked a sizzling 13-hit attack to down the Drummondville Cubs by a withering 11-6 score for their third straight triumph over the locals in the still-young Provincial Baseball League season.Nipping a desperate Drummondville rally in the ninth after three runs had been scored, the Sher-brookers ran into trouble when both Pitcher Lefty Dube and Catcher Nick Malfara were expelled from the grounds after they had taken exception to Umpire Mayo Guilbault’s decisions in no uncertain fashion.Malfara was the first to be thrown out and Dube followed minutes later when he took a swing at Guilbault, The outburst was a long time coming but come it did.Throughout the game, Guilbault’s decisions had irked the Notre Dame men no end, as they had the previous Sunday when Guilbault decided to call the strikes from a stance taken behind the pitcher.Following the game, which Dave Lambton finished off by striking out the third game, Drummondville supporters and Sherbrooke fans and players tangled outside the gate.As the Sherbrookers piled into their cars, they were subjected to a minor hail of stones which caused some damage to one of the vehicles. As for the game itself, good baseball was in evidence, featuring strong, hitting and good fielding.Behind Lefty Dube, who had allowed but five hits up till the ninth inning, the Sherbrookers had forged into a 7-0 lead before Drummondville answered the challenge in the sixth frame.Off to a fast start, the Notre Dame men pounced on Mac Fournier’s offerings in the first inning for two hits and a walk which netted two runs.Sherbrooke bats didn’t start swinging again until the fourth when another two runs were shoved across the plate. In the fifth, Notre Dame brought the count to 7-0.The sixth saw the Cubs gain two runs on a two-run homer by Leo Dupont and, in the next inning, bring the score to 7-3.However, Sherbrooke opened up TRUSSES Fitted and adjusted.Satisfaction guaranteed, Gaudet Pharmacy 29 King St.W.Tel.3863 Near Bus Terminal again in the eighth and tallied two more counters and finished off in ’the ninth with another brace of ¦runs.| The Cubs tried desperately to stage a comeback in the last of the ninth but their bats were silenced jafter they had gained only three iruns, whicii brought the final count Jto 11-6 in Notre Dame’s favor.| Chuck Malfara was the star of jthe day for Notre Dame as he bang-led out three hits, including a long ¦triple, in five appearances at the ¦plate.Chuck’s hits were timely, his i clouts bringing in three of the vis-iitors’ runs.| Norm Dussault, Marty Martel, Paul Lamontagne and Lefty Dube lalso wielded heavy bats for Sherbrooke, each poling out two hits.Cliff Couillard was also potent at the plate, slamming out a double in the first frame which brought home one man.Provencher, with two hits, led the .Cubs, although Dupont's homer | along the rightfield line was the clout of the day. After six innings, in which the Sherbrookers had piled up a commanding lead of 7-0, the Cubs with-[drew starting pitcher Mac Fournier, who had been touched for nine hits, .and sent in their ace hurler, Vin-Jcent Provencher, who finished off the game, giving up four hits in the three innings he worked.Red Vandal, who replaced Provencher in leftfield in the seventh, \\ gained a heavy double.Notre Dame started off in the [first when .with two out, Nick Mal-[fara drew a base on balls.Cliff Coil-ilard brought in the first run when he banged out a double to centre.Couillard came home on the next play (when Chuck Malfara1 hit a strong ; single to centre, the first of his [three clouts.j In the fourth, a single by Chuck ! Malfara, a fielder’s choice on Alfie [Malfara and a single by Marty Mar-itel put two men on.A bad throw to [first by Third Baseman Claude Gen-est on Lefty Dube's grounder al-[ lowed Alfie and Marty Martel to scramble home.In the fifth, singles by Norm Dus-jsault and Nick Malfara and a sacri-jfice by Cliff Couillard put two men in scoring position and a rousing triple to rightfield by Chuck Malfara brought the two runs home.On Lamontagne's single two plays later, Chuck came home with Notre [Dame’s seventh run.[ The sixth saw Drummondville [open, with Gerry Vandal drawing a [base on balls and then coming home [when Leo Dupont smashed out his deep rightfield circuit clout. The Cubs drew another run in the seventh when Dubuc, who had walked, romped home, after having stol- en a base, on Myrand’s long single to right. In the eighth, Sherbrooke drew two more runs with Meunier scoring one man and Provencher walking in the other. Two more runs were added to the Sherbrooke total in the ninth on an error, a walk, a single, a wild pitch and a run-producing single by Norm Dussault.Drummondville started off their rally with Provencher gaining a single which Dubuc followed up on by clouting a one-bagger to centre.A two-bagger on the next play by Red Vandal scored Provencher and Dubuc came home on Myrand’s f!y to centre.Vandal came home with the final run when Gerry Vandal, his brother, bashed out a single off Dave Lambton, who relieved Dube.Lambton, however, quelled the uprising by striking out the next man up, Leo Dupont, who had previously clouted the homer.Sherbrooke AB Meunier, 3b.5 Dussault, cf . 5 N.Malfara, c .4 Couillard, 2b .4 C.Malfara, If .5 A.Malfara, lb .5 xLamontagne, rf-c .5 Martel, ss L.Dube, p .xxLambton, p xxxG.Dube, rf 8.C.S.Track Men Retain Skinner ______7 Trophy For Another Year, Winning £$J) JQ QUEBEC WINNING STREAK Interscholastic Meet Held Here Trackmen of Bishop’s College day, when Clark of Lennoxville High School carried off the honors in the tossed the 12-pound shot for a dis-! r., third annual Eastern Townships tance of 37 feet. v. C —Making Interscholastic Track Meet held here l V.Ranaud of Stanstead College, hIi./,rst aPPearance in a Plessisvilie Saturday, taking the championship walked away with midget honors, pitcher Jean Paul Tet- for the third consecutive season, in.taking a first place in the broad re.a.Put ani er‘d to the four-game fact ever since the meet has been Jump by leaping 14’ 2”, and coming Ylni?lnfî m U16 league-leading held in Sherbrooke under the spon- Jn second in the 50-yard dash to sorship of the Y’s Men. : amass a total of eight points.Retaining possession of the Skin-1 The name of Gall of Drummond-ner Trophy for another year, the ! vilel was found among the top per-B.C.S.men piled up a total of 10'2 , formers of the day with brothers points during one of the most sue- c°mPetinS in both midget and junior • T „ cessful meets ever held on the Par-! events, P.Gall winning honors for ^edg.eJUt_ ?enn_^ ade Grounds. With favorable team with a first in the midget a ' ' Alfie Malfara Clouts Locals To 1-0 Win Over Commandos Quebec Verdonets, here today when he tossed the Cubs to a 3-2 victory in a contested Provincial Independent Baseball League fixture.Tetreault scattered nine safeties to the home team and fanned six in brecque, who was trying to record reather and an attendance of some 50-yard dash, a third in the midget ¦ " T C ^ , , .L' 3 8'0'0 persons, the success of the meet broad jump and his brother B.Gall, !, t f • I ¦ " reflected high credit on every mem-joking first in the junior broad jump , , , her of the Sherbrooke Y’s Men's.and,finishin2 third in tbe junior 75- UCRea dash.A brother-act also Club who in some capacity on the!yard field to insure the completion of ; for they knew that it was to the furtherance of their interests, their hopes and aspirations that John Bracken devoted his great administrative ability. Thus it was that in the years from 1922 to 1942 John Bracken won five, straight elections as Premier of Manitoba. Thus it came about that through raging political and economic storms, against adverse gales of opposition and through the deep dark waters of the great depression itself, it was still John Bracken who held steady the helm of government, steering a straight progressive course, firm in his principles and profoundly aware of his high office. You should know more about John Bracken, his deep earnestness, his all-embracing humanity and the almost startling simplicity and sincerity of this Lincolnesque man who has never known defeat at the polls.Listen to him as he speaks of Canada today — “Our civilization is at the great crossroads of its history — a revolutionary change in our approach to social problems. We are facing a threefold task .a war to win, a peace to make enduring and a world to make more acceptable to the common man." And does this farmer’s son, this John Bracken born in a log cabin, know what the common man wants?Listen again- The people want a national economy in which ALL can prosper. They want equitable prices — adequate rates of pay for workers.’’ They want “to sever the bonds that tied us to scarcity in the past and release the forces that will give us abundance in the future .” And —finally .Had I not believed that we could succeed in this great purpose I would have stayed back home in Manitoba," B-5 Published by the Progressive Conservative Party.Ottawa.Totals zHit for Bernier in 6th.zzReplaced Provencher in 7th.zzzRelieved Fournier after 6 innings.zzzzHit for Bergeron in 9th.Score by innings: Sherbrooke .20i0 230 022—11 13 0 Drum’ville .000 002 103— 6 8 3 Summary—Errors: Myrand, Bergeron, Genest; Malfara’s slashing single to right ; field in the eighth inning last night 1 proved disastrous to the Three Rivers Commandos here as the blow knocked in Chuck Malfara with the only run of the game as Sherbrooke Notre Dame eked out a tight 1-0 ,win in spite of brilliant pitching by Commandos’ Clyde Roy.Chalking- up their second Provincial Baseball League win bf the day, having beaten the Drummondville Cubs 11-6 at Drummondville in the afternoon, the Sherbrookers nearly fell victims to the superb righthand-ed twirling of Speedfballer Clyde Roy, who drew 15 strikeouts over the 9-inning route. The win over the Commandos gave the Sherbrooke squad undisputed leadership of the league, vaulting ahead of the Quebec Verdonets who dropped their first decision of the year yesterday at Plessisvilie.Sherbrooke, who have played one more game than Quebec, are now .033 points up on the Verdonets. After seven frames of spectacular hurling, during which time he gave up only two hits, Roy breezed into the eighth inning and got the first two men out before he ran into disaster. With only one man to get out, Roy issued a free ticket to Chuck Malfara in the beginning of the Commandos downfall. With Alfie Malfara at bat, Cotnoir slipped up on one of Roy’s pitches and Chuck moved to second. Then Alfie Malfara stepped into one of Roy’s pitches and sent the bal' screaming into right field for a scorching single, scoring his brother, Chuck, with the winning run and ruining Roy’s great effort on the mound. In their half of the eighth the Commandos were unable to score, Dave Lambton, who turned in a great game for Shenbrooke on the mound, getting the side out one-two-three.In the ninth, the Sherbrookers almost broke loose again when Norm Dussault blasted a long triple to centre. However, Nick Malfara grounded out to end the inning. Both sides had barely missed, scoring at earlier points of the game, but g’ood fielding kept both squads scoreless.Alfie and Nick Malfara were outstanding, cutting two Three Rivers runners off at the plate, Landry in the fourth and Trudel in the sixth.Sherbrooke, although completely [tied up by the mastery of Roy’s 15-strike-out pitching, were the better team afield, playing flawless ball, though the Commandos were charged with only one.The Commandos outhit the Sher-brookers 7-5, but six bases on balls by Roy to one by Lambton gave Notre Dame more chances to get in a scoring position than the Trif-Imians, Alfie Malfara, Notre Dame first baseman, whose single broke up the game and gave the visitors the close triumph, was the star on the Notre Dame line-up, gaining two hits in two official trips to the plate. His first hit was a long double to centre-field which Ferrand made a one-handed stab at but missed.Norman “Rabbit” Dussault’s triple, and singles by Paul Lamontagne and Gaby Meunier completed the Sherbrooke quota of hits.Gaston Trudel led the Commandos with two hits in four appearances while singles were banged out by Bill McIntyre, Hank Ferrand, Pony Landry, Jerry Cotnoir, and Roland Meunier. The game had its exciting moments in the third inning when Man- nie McIntyre, Three Rivers shortstop, and Dave Lambton, Notr* Dame hurler engaged in fistcuffs around first base.McIntyre came to bat and bunted a slow one along the first base line.Lambton tried to pick it up but Mc-! Intyre crashed into him on his way to the bag.Umpire Leo Fournier, at first, called McIntyre out for interference j but the matter didn’t end there.I Lambton, claiming McIntyre had spiked him deliberately charged after the colored player and took a swing at him.It was quite doubtful for a vvhjle whether McIntyre and Lambton ’ would stay in the game but play was finally resumed with both men in their respective positions.Sherbrooke Meunier, 3b AB R H PO A .4 0 1 1 3 0 1 4 0 0 0 7 0 .4 0 0 2 0 f . .1 1 0 1 0 lb . o 0 o 9 7 rf . o • .o 0 i 1 0 ,.4 0 0 0 2 .4 0 0 2 4 . 31 1 5 27 11 AB R H PO A 3b . .3 0 1 0 l .* .4 0 0 7 0 • .• • .4 0 9 i •7 SS . .4 0 0 i 0 , , , , , .4 0 1 2 0 .4 0 1 0 0 . s .• .3 0 1 15 9 .3 0 1 0 0 .3 0 0 1 2 • • . 32 0 7 27 6 rmings: .009 090 010- —1 5 0 ; 009 090 000- —0 7 1 N.Malfaic Martel, ss .Lambton, p Totals .Three Rivers Benoit ,1b j Trudel, 2b .[ M.McIntyre, [ Ferrand, cf [ Landry, If j Cotnoir, c .j Meunier, rf Roy, p .Totals ., Summary—-Errors: Landry; runs batter in: A.Malfara; two base hit; A.Malfara; three base hit: Dussault; stolen bases: B.McIntyre, Landry, Trudel; sacrifices; Dussault, A.Malfara; bases on balls: off Roy 6, off Lambton 1; left on bases: Sherbrooke 11, Three Rivers ti: strike out: by Roy 14, by Lambton 5; hits: off Roy 5 for 1 run in 9 innings, off Lambton 7 for 0 runs in 9 innings; wild pitch: Roy; passed ball, N.Malfara 2, Cotnoir 2; winning pitcher: Lambton; losing pitcher Roy; umpires: Gauthier at plate, Blanchette and Fournier on bases; attendance 2,100; time of game: 2:20.Minora Blades give LOW-COST SHAVING Minora outlasts ond "outshaves” ordinary double-edge blades. For honest-to-goodness economy, try the quality blade in the low-price field.Fits your double-edge razor.LADES m the mile in as many years.Junior honors were easily taken by D.Stearns, of Bishop’s College School, who ran up 11 points, participating in every event of his class.Never quite making first place, Stearns displayed good form in all his tries and was more or less responsible for his team's victorious finish, pacing the 440-yard relay 50 guineas with better racing luck.220-yard dash: 1, Bascom, Sher- Fair Jester and Uttermost will ap-brooke; 2, Pitfield, B.C.S.; 3, Allen, pear next in Saturday’s $3,000 Prince B.C.S.Time: 25.1 seconds.100-yard dash: 1, Ford, B.C.S.; 2, Rowley, East Angus; 3, Paulette, Sherbrooke.Time: 11.2 seconds.Discus: 1.Arnold, B.C.S.: 2, Piper, Stanstead; 3, B.Johnston, Stanstead.Distance: 89 ft.9Vi in.of Wales plate for owner-breeder Harry Hatch of Toronto, who recorded his fifth triumph in the nation’s richest horse race when Uttermost conquered Tarian by two lengths in 1:58 4-5 for nine furlongs, whittling two-fifths of a sec- NOW! $100 LOAN REPAID IN 6 MONTHLY PAYMENTS COSTS ONLY 95.32 Now you can borrow 520 to 5lOOO ot new lower rates. No endorsers or bankable security needed team to a new record of 52.2 seconds. In the junior class another new record was also established Satur- Shot put: 1, Barter, Stanstead; 2, ond from the previous plate standard Black, Stanstead; 3, Arnold, B.C.S- set by Horometer in 1934.SIDE GLANCES By Galbraith Distance: 33 ft.2Vi in.Broad jump: 1.Kuehner, Lennox-[ ville; 2, Ford, B.C.S.; 3, Hayes, East; [ Angus.Distance: 17 ft.9 in.[ 880-yard relay: 1, Stanstead (Bar-' ' ter, Piper, B.Johnston, MacDonald) [2.B.C.S.(Allen, Fraser, Molson,!
