about 800 bodies are entombed in the Empress of Ireland, at the bottom of the St.Lawrence, three miles off Father Point in 100 feet of water. Some of these may be free in the water, and so may come up later, but it Is believed that the great majority of them arc still in the vessel. No decision has been arrived at as yet with regard to what will be done with the vessel itself.Capt.Walsh, marine superintendent of the C.P.R., is now in communication with several leading salvage firms of the United States, and is awaiting advice from them as to what should be done with the sunken hull.If at all possible the ship will be raised and towed to shore and the bodies will be taken out. This, however, depends upon the advice of the experts."The only thing I can say so for,” said Capt.Walsh reading yesterday and resulted in an all night sitting, previous to a division which was looked for in the early hours of morning. There was a long list of speakers, some half a score In all expressing views for and against the appropriation of $1,200,-000 by Parliament to reimburse the depositors in the wrecked institution.A feaeure of, the speeches was that they did not adhere to strict, party lines, some Ontario Liberals and some French Conservatives differing with their parties in favoring and opposing the legislation respectively. The speakers yesterday were nearly all from Ontario and Quebec. On the Government side Hon.T.W.Oroth-ers, Minister of Labor, and Hon.L.P.Pelletier, Postmaster-General, were SAYS ROOSEVELT IS UNDESIRABLE Leading Spanish Paper Quite Outspoken as to become the chief topic of conversation in political and social circles. In the lobbies of the chamber even the ministerial crisis seemed to be taking the second place in people’s thoughts.” The correspondent interviewed Guy de Cassagnac, who said he published his article in L’Autorite in the interests of France. He declares the authors of the plot to compel Poincare to resign by attacking the private life of Mme.Poincare are acting not only from personal spite and hatred, but from political motives.“M.Poincare embodies the policy of the three year bill,” said M.de Cassagnac.“Its opponents are also his opponents. They are making common cause with those who would like to distract attention from the coming trial of Mme.Caillaux.They would set the President’s wife against the wife of M.Caillaux.We will not permit our country to be besmirched. The honor of France is our only care.It would be an insult to the sovereigns who have been received in the name of France by M.Poincare and his wife if any political party In France were to be allowed to discredit the Presiaent and his wife, 'T fear this scandal cannot be prevented, but if the President adopts a strong attitude he will have the country behind him, and by a strong attitude I mean that he should not depart from his principles or his policy.” VIVIANI MAY BE PREMIER.Paris, June 4.—It is regarded as certain that Rene Viviani will he one j of the first approached by President1 Poincare to form a cabinet to succeed that of Gaston Doumergue. The President faces a difficult situation In finding a new premier, because it is necessary to unearth a man within his own party who will agree to the changes in policy made imperative by the great gain of the Socialists in the Chamber. The three years bill is the crux of the political situation in France to-day.The Socialists are unalterably opposed to it.President Poincare and his adherents are committed to It.-4- recalls that Colonel Roosevelt fought as a volunteer against the Spaniards and declares that his actions were most unfriendly to Spain. The paper also reminds its readers of the strong anti-Spanish take place on June 22.NOT EXPECTED NOW THAT THE MEASURE WILL BE INTRODUCED THIS SESSION IN COMMONS.Ottawa, June 4.—The prospect of a redistribution bill being brought down this session is disappearing, though It was understood generally that everything had been arranged satisfactorily. The final meeting of the committee In charge of the measure was held last night, and, to the surprise of all, the Liberal members of the com-mittse refused to accept the rearrangement of the constituencies. The committee split on the union of Prescott and Russell, in Ontario, and of Richmond and South Oape Breton in Nova Scotia.Russell is represented by Hob.Charles Murphy, and Richmond by G.W.Kyte, M.P., and they apparently had influence enough to prevent their party accepting what is generally which he asserted that the sun irv its passage around the world would see no such sight as Rome.Although the year of Rome’s birthday is officially recognized as 750 B.C., recent archaeological discoveries indicate that it should be moved back many centuries.f The first coins of North America were issued In the Sdmmer Islands, now known as the Bermudas, in 1616.The earliest United States coins were the copper half-cents and cents of 1793.SENATOR CHOQUETTE DOES NOT THINK SENATE SHOULD VOTE ON PARTY LINES.Ottawa, June 4.—Resuming the debate on the tariff resolution of Senator Power regretting that the Government had not reduced the tariff, Senator Choquette in the Upper House yesterday said he did not think the Senate should be called upon to vote on party lines and commit themselves to a line of action, which they would probably repudiate should the Liberals be called to office in the next election. The tariff was also used as a vote-catching device. It was the convenience of political1 opportunists.Senator MacKay, of Cape Breton, ! said that he felt a good deal as Senator Choquette did.He adjourned the debate. Will Endeavour to Get at True Facts in stated that had he not been paired and unable to vote, he would have voted against the resolution.Premier Borden, the last speaker, said that the Hon.Mr.Fielding should not have issued the certificate, but as he had done so, and the hank failed, the Government was morally bound to aid the depositors.the principal speakers.Hon.Rodolphe Lemieux opposed the legislation strongly, and, like other Opposition speakers, protested against it on the ground that it was setting a dangerous precedent, and that it was sectional legislation designed to implement a Conservative pre-election pro-| mise in Ontario.Another ground of j argument by the Liberal members ! was that the Banque Ville Marie, Banque St.Jean and other institu-! tions in Quebec province which had failed were entitled to the same con-| sidération as the Farmers Bank.Government speakers supported the legislation because, they said, the loss to depositors would never have occurred had Hon.W.S.Fielding listened to warnings and refused to issue a certificate to a bank with W.R.Travers at its head.Until Carranza's Position is Settled A.B.0.DIPLOMATS HAVE NOT?YIELDED AN INCH TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT.Niagara Falls, Ont., June 4.—(Special)—Despite the mild denial given out last night by the mediators, there is no doubt that the mediation proceedings are at an absolute standstill. This deadlock will not be broken before the question of Carranza’s participation in the conference here is definitely settled. Not even the informal conversations, which have been the chief feature of the negotiations, were held yesterday._ The mediators have yielded to the American delegates to the extent at least of withdrawing from their original stand that Carranza, having once rejected their invitation, would under no circumstances be admitted. The A.B.C.diplomats have, however, not yielded an inch to the State Department or to General Carranza in the matter of putting temporary-stop to the revolution, which is de» vastating Mexico.-+- , THREAT MADE BY SYLVIA PANKHURST SAYS SHE WILL LIE ON DOOR STEPS OF COMMONS UNTIL GRANTED INTERVIEW London, June 4—“I will lie on the steps of the House of
