Titre :
Morning chronicle and commercial and shipping gazette
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

The revolution in China is progressing.Sixty-five Chinese rebels had been beheaded iu Canton in one day.LATEST FROM SPAIN.Again the character ol the new* trom the Peninsula h is completely changed. From the tormidable appearance presented by the insurrectionary ’ force *n Naragossa, as depicted by the Pans Moniteur, trom the excitement prevailing in many towns, and the < {ten opposition to the O’Donnell Government presented in several places, it was believed that Spain was on the eve of a civil war ; but it is now regarded as little less than a certainty that the hostile movement has been completely checked.According to a despatch from St.Sebastian, of the 26lh, great dis-eoura.ernent prevailed in Saragossa ; the jwople began to see the truth ; and the insurgents had sent to (ieneral Echagues to request a suspension of hostilities for five days —a request which was granted.A despatch from Perpignan, ol the same date, is of the «aine tone.It intimates that events in Oata-lonia were assuming a character more and more favorable to the Queen's (iovernment ; that the revolutionary junta of Girona had dissolved itselt ; that General Ruiz had taken refuge in France, as well aa the Deputy Hen-riquez, one ot the chiefs of the insurrection ; and that discouragement and disorganization were making rapid progress in the ranks of the insurgent militia. At Madrid the Progesistas had not decided on what course they wonld pursue with respect to the new Government ; but somo of the party must appear to be' willing, as a kind of fast hope for the constitional cause, to give their support to O’Donnell. The Kpoca of the 22nd announces in a sem i-official form that the Queen has written to Marshal Narvaez, requesting him fa remain in Paris.Tire Madrid journals give us little information as to the condition ot affair*.They are filled only with fulsome llattery ol the powers that be, with empty proclamations, and with verses in honor ol the Prince Imperial ol France.Ono fact only is to be gathered from their contents. The government has come to no decision as toits future policy. After the fall of Saragossa, we have nevertheless every reason to expect the immediate dissolution of the Cortes and the suppression of the militia. These acts will be iho harbingers of the nullity ol electoral rights and a rcçimr of bayonets. The contagion ol «« concentration of public power,” of order, lnen-el re and so forth*, has spread and will do its work.O’Donnell hesitates. He will probably be the first to ilisappear in the shock of events, unless he be aided by other arms and advice than he can find in Madrid. The Times Paris correspondent writes : — “ It is generally believed that the article on Spanish affairs, in yesterday’s Moniteur, is from the Emperor.23d July, punctually on the day on which she was advertised to sail. The next steamer is announced for the 9lh ot August. The Crimean Report turns out as many thought it would—«« a mockery, a delusion ami a snare.” Every body is excused, and nobody is to blame. The following is the estimate which the Times farms of tho report :—“ This extraordinary document fully realises the worst anticipations of those who saw in the whole proceedings merely a plan for screening men whose conduct had been aid mad verte»!
