Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

we ste much of them, they visit our country ind we theirs.Again we do not forget that in the time of our naticnal bereavement when our heads were bowed and our eyes were filled with tears, and our hearts sorrow stricken at the death of our beloved Queen, we do not forget the spontaneous sympathy with us which was so universally shown throughout the length and breadth of the great Republic.‘The memory of that tends to deepen our own sympathy for them.at the present { me.May the feelings of mutual sympathy which have hen woked by the deaths of Queen Vie: leria and 1Mesidert McKinley ere to Atezen and intensify the ‘trother]y iriendlirxes which alrady cxists | be tween our two great English-spcaläng tions.And for the tercavcd widow in her heart-rending grief it would Le impossible for me 10 say how much we feel.May the God of all comfort and consolation, sustain and strength- a and corsvle her in (his sad hour.[ am sure my dear people that you ave been praying for her in your pri- vale prayers and | hope ihat we all ne and all continue to pray for her 1s well as for the other sorrowing re Aatives of the ate President.One source of consolation she bas, serhaps the graatst source of cou- wlation that any one could possitly tave at such a time, namely, the know ledge that the dear one for whom she nourns was not oily a great man but 1 God-learing and a good man, one «ho hot only devoted his great ability wd untiring energy to the service f his country, but tewt of all one whose deep seated faith and trust in is Maviour enabled bim to face the nomont of death with calmness and zonfidence.‘There is perhaps no position in this wide world where the manner of life id charact:r cf a man is so keenly observed and criticized as that of a ’res:dent of a great Republic, and 1 ave yl lo learn that anyone has been tle {0 cast a stone cither at the pur- ri of the private life or the probity of the public life of William McKinley, While we prayerfully commend hint 0 God, and praise (lod for his noble xamplke, we may confidently trust that iis self-denying labours for his coun- y's good, his pure and upright life, -is unswerving faith in His God and saviour will meet with their full re vard in the land beyond the grave, vhere the darknesx of this world's troubles and sorrows will vanish in he glorious light of God's [reecnce.™ The scrmon was followed by the ‘hoir singing hymn 277, .'Nearer My ind to Thee,” when the xrvioe was concluded by a prayer and benediction ‘rom the Very Itev, Dean.At this noment, the organist, Mr.E.A.Sishiop, played the dead march in Saul, very person in the hacred edifice wtand- ng up and remainihg standin until le march was ea when the nd the people assisting at the mervi he Clurch.The playing of the dent narch appeared very appropriate wery pefson present, as t about the time ‘rowident was about belrig huried.Good enough for tone ri aough for .Tentley' nent (ten cents) the modern © Cure, en frees DRES#G00DS, cher We wish "has our dress connection with the burial services of William McKinley, so cruelly assassinated at Buffalo, N.Y.The church wap well filled with members of the 0 assist in the sad, mournful service, and and Rev.Lenox Smith, Curate of the lrgymen {aking part left the vestry, ta 1 Judmed; containing an extra change of linen.Consequently not one out of every twenty visitors boiher«l the hapgage department.This alone coes to show that the influx of strangers into the citv must have been envemous and easily numbered over 20,000.Besides the above roads the Lake St.John and Great Northern Railways brought a large number of passearers do the ty over thor nespuctive lines.Every railway station, both at Levis and the Quetec side nf the river, Was beautifully decorated with tlags and bunting and at night illwninated by means of electric lamps.The Quelxé Cantral ticket office in the Lower Town was a marvel of Leauty in the respect, IL wan literally covered with flags very tastefullv arranged, and in the midst of all could be scen the American flag drancd in mourning.supported by flags of all nations, symbolical of svmpathv, On tle whole.takine Into consideration the number of weople who Came tc Quebec over the different railways, the boats, and who reached the city fron the countsy parishes in their own private vehides, it is _vonsorvatively estimated that fully 75,000 strangers were in Quelve to rect and pay bom- age to the Duke and duchess.The hotels and’ boarding houses in every pact of the city were taxed to their utmost limit and the same can ie said of tz accommodation at Fevis, Nevertheless there were no compliints this particular Hikz 11 niher details of the occasion.This is a strong arguieen that Quekcc ie at all tiines able to ac commodate a large numter of stram gers and the city safer m à poneral conduct than anv other city on the continent.All thes?pas-ing features were made Possible by the excellent arrangements and systematic organization in which Mis Excollency the Governor-(ieneral, his military se cretary and staf, Mr.J.11.Pove, De puty Minister of State, and Hon.55.N.Parent.Mavor of Quencc, were {lk œuiding heads.apn cart When some people are unable to do a thing they boast of it.“Have You Tried It" ?Meerschaum Cut Plug smoking tobacoo, It's oll right.#14 Rrorywhore.(fie.par package Love, like Hghtn ne.seldom wtrikes twice fn the samo place.Thats why widows marry for money the wcond time, ———ee Feptember is the finest month of the FA to visit Lake St John Protected by the mountain anges from the cold winds of the Bt.Lawrence, the climate of the Lake St.John Valley in the Autumn is very delightful, The Lake and Mountain Beanery of the Oanadian Adirendacks tarugh which the Quebec and Take 8t John Railway passes is beautiful.Unsurpassed acoom- adie;
