Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

delivery, and, in his opinion, there would be a supcrabundant supply of the smaller class of vessels. But it was most important that the permanent ships now building, and to be built, should in every way be suited to carry cargo at the least cost. The most simple direct way to reduce cost, Mr.Robinson considered, was to increase the capacity of ships so they could carry more tons of froght per unit of labor and material.Depth of harbor and nawi- gable waters and commercial considerations of tragic were among the prindpal problems modifying - |the size of vessels, rather than any problems of construction. The far- ger vessels would accomplish a the great saving in coal consumption, and also in Isbor, while in oil-burn- ers the saving of the langer types would be even more marked. The large vessels woud 2sb require less wharf frontage per ton.Mr.Robinson advocated the adop- {tion in miscellaneous cargoes of el- jectric hdists on shore instead of steam winches on the ship, and ‘ele ectric trucks to reecive the load direct from the ho'sts and carry it manner manual labor could be reduced, and hand-truclking done away with.An important point was whether we should construct ships to suit present terminal facilities and channel depths and thus put a Fmitation on them, or adopt a certa’n skze and type of ship that would give the ute most economy for a particuar route, and then design the terminals and shore ‘equipment at both ends of the route to suite the sp.Mr.Robinson thought the latter should be the policy adopted. The best example of the succem of guch a policy was to be found in Lakes, where the vessels stagtlardzed. No unload’ng equipment was carried, and the utmost economy was secured. The fhatch- ways were spaced a unifom distance apart so that a vessel of any length and any number of hatchways would ft under a row of fixed chutes, and slso under the unloading equipment. Thus the utmost dispatch was secured. What was needed, Mr.Robinson concluded, was co-ord'nation co-op- eration, and standardization.By means of these, properly applied, Canada would have a merchant matine which would carry her products to every corner of the earth.= COUN OD AROS G0 ON 30 .OCEAN SAILINGS, ® G00 OD GF TO ON 0S On i Compiled for The Chronicle by P.8.Stocking, General Steamshir Agent, 32 St.Louis street.Subject to Change.Feb.Steamer.From To 25—Le Touraine.New York.Havre # —Royal George New York.Liverpool “ —Canopic .New Yor!.Mediterranean 28—Prinses Juliana.‘ Boston.Liverpool ‘March Steamers.3—Seotian .St.John.Liverpool A ‘anada .Portland.Liverpool gent made Jude yd Niagara New York.Bordeaux pue Bos: a hale, of a proposal S-sAquitania.New York.Liverpool Fer the dE rot ot à govern- 7-dMelita .St.John.Liverpooi | ment marine & men, #—Lapland .New York.Liverpool o—La Lorraine.New York.Havre 31—Megantic .Portland.Liverpool * —Cussandra .St.John.Glasgow “ Grampian.8t John.Liverpool * Chicas .New York.Bordeaux 16-—Orduna .New York Liverpool * —Saxonia .New York.Liverpoo!
