receipts for the week were 2,645 brls, almost entirely from near ports, and shipments 2,239 brls of which 507 brls.went to the West Indies’ and the remainder to Boston.Herrings— Have been quiet, with little trade ex-vessel the last week, the receipts being only 203 brls., and shipments 325 brls., all of which were in West India cargoes.Alewives— Were in fair request; receipts, 385 brls., and the shipment was of 150 brls.to Jamaica.Salmon—Are as high as $16.Cod Oil—Is quiet, and shipments have been nil, while the receipts were only 2,100 g liions.Floue—Has advanced again, and prices are uncertain in the Western markets.There is very little Flour in store, only 2,145 brls.having come in during the past week, 945 of which arrived from Boston, but it is believed that a good deal is on the way.Coenmbal—Unchanged, and arrivals have been only 873 brls.Oats—Of Prince Edward’s Island grades are scare, and would go higher if it were not for the presence of the large quantity of Quebec of alow grade in the market.The receipts of Oats in the week were 1,500 bushels from Prince Edward’s Island, and this quality is quoted at 50 cents, the highest figura.Some Cape Breton Oats touched nearly as good a market.Sugab—Firm, and the Boston markets seem likely to advance.The stocks at the four ports on the 11th were 144,061 tons, against 86,178 tons in 1878, but the call for Refined makes the demand a good one.Against importations our receipts in this port were 317 hhds, 48 bbls and 3 tierces- MARKETS by telegraph, TO THE MONTBEAL HERALD, MARINE IHTELLICEHCE SHIPPING AND WEATHER.PORT OF MONTREAL.Arrivals—July 17, SteiFrS!,v Pri^ce ,EJwai'd.832, Robert F raser, master, from Pictou, H Dobell “ °0’ agents, coal.July 18.1'froin , Island—9.46 o’ T o’clock F.M.Price of Passage (going children under 10 years, 3 unis free.May 30 f CLENDINNENC’i MaYUm All the Latest I1N July 17 H& A ALLAN, Agents.* m 169 TO JttEJNT, r|’"e Premises st present occupied Hill by the Mechanics’ Bank, either in 1 part or the whole.Apply at the Bank.T , P.S.STEVENSON.July 15 el67 TO la HI T, __ lurge Room in the front part ïïiij of the Ukraud Building, and an- !àak?tll-cr wc!1 8uited for li»h*’ wanufac-—^hiring, in rear.Steam power if necessary.Apply at the Office, 155 st.James Street.January TO I-KT, The Whole of the Fi-rt Fln> I the Herald Building Very it |i^able for Law Chambers ;
