market opened this morning dull and depressed, what transactions there were being confined to legitimate scalpers, and even then not presenting much encouragement to the brokers, as fluctuations were very small.Quite a gelling movement set in, however, this afternoon, and some of the Bulls and Bears had a squaring up of accounts In Bank of Montreal, and it was a fortunate occurrence that the short interest was sufficient to take the large block that was sold, as over 500 shares changed hands at 1904, that stock closing at 190 bid, 1904 asked. There are no new features in the market, and no causes are assigned for the break, It was simply a case of getting tired, owing to the general unsatisfactory state of all the markets of the world, and the Bears seem to have been very generous in not taking advantage of this fact as there are no outsiders to buy stocks and very few insiders who really want them, The close was dull and weak, and as our readers have been informed for days past, there are no good reasons to buy stocks for the present, as it will require a very conservative policy to go safely through the coming winter. The following are the quotations of the stock market
