that the latter having, in a neighbouring ifland, a body of about z000 men, General Potemkin fent thither a Colonel, w:th fome cavaltry, Who, from an ambufcade, attacked them fo brifkly, that they loft 500 men in killed, wounded, and prifoners.Conflantinogle, April 17.This city was lately fet on fire in five dif.rent parts ; moreover, that the Maniottes who have been joined by fome hundreds of Albanians, are deltroying part of the Morea.L ON D O N, Mar 29.\u2018 Yc{fterday the Lord Mayor held a Court of Common Council, ta purfuance ef a fummons, \u2018\u201c to confiler of an application to Parliament, refpecting a \"bill now depending, relating to the Eait-India Company.\u201d Mr.Alderman Kirkman very avly went into the particulars of the bill, and proved incon- teftibly that the bill was no lefs injurious to the rights of every corporate body in the kingdom from its principle, than a direét and immediate attack on the privileges of the Eatt-India Company, and the rights of the Proprietors, fe- cored to them by charter and by Parliament.He afterwards expatiated on the confequences of placing fo enormous a power in the crown, to the total deftruction of the coniltitution, and concluded with moving for a petition to the Houfe of Commons againit the bill now depending, and for initruétions to the Members to oupofe its progrefs in the houle.Mr.Alderman Wilkes feconded Mr.Alderman Kirkman, and obicived, that the bill was founded on the principle of iniquity and robbery, as well as a bare-faced violation of the public faith, and thercfore ought to be oppofcd by every corporation in the kingdom, as well as by cvery elcetor in it.Mr.Kirkman\u2019s motions were then carried unanimoufly, and the petition was ordered to be immediately prefented to the Houle of Commons, which was done accordingly.To the Hon.the Commons of Great-Britain, in Parliament aflembled.The humble Petition of the Lord-Mayor, AlJermen, and Commons of the - City of London, in Common-council affembled, Shewvcoh, * That this Court, having taken into their moft ferious confideration a bill now depending in Parliament, intituled, A bill for eftablifhing certain regulations for the better management of the affairs of the Eaft-India Company, as well in India as in Europe, are of opinion, that the faid bill is a dive\u20act and dangerous attack on the liberties of the people, and will, if paffed into a law, prove of the moft fatal confequence to the fecurity of property in general, anu particularly the franchifes of every corporate body in this kingdom;
