Ministry and inducted to the pastoral charge of the Parish of Grenville, in the presence of a large congregation in St.Giles Church, Grenville village. The members of the presbytery in attendance were the Rev.Messrs.Taylor, of Montreal, and Fraser.of Cushing, and Mr.Thomas Gray, of East Hawkesbury, the representative elder of the Parish of Chatham and Point Fortune. The Rev.Messrs.Miller, minister of Hawkesbury, in the Ottawa Presbytery, and Hamilton, of Grenville, being present, were invited to sit as corresponding members. After divine service, Mr.Fraser, who presided, explained that with respect to assent to the Confesston of Faith, the subordinate standard of the Church, it was the practice of signatories not to regard that assent as {implying assent to every statement in the Confession, and that the church courts tacitly recognized thelr claim to liberty. The appointed questions having then been put and satisfactorily answered, the imposition of hands on Mr.Tucker followed, Mr.Fraser offering the solemn ordination prayer.Thereafter the right hand of fellowship was extended to the now ordained minister, and words of brotherly counsel by the presiding officer were addressed to him, bringing to his remembrance Jesus Christ in his inner life as revealed through the outward forms and activities of his mission to Israel, rhe pattern for the pastor in his mission. The Rev.Mr.Taylor followed in an address to the congregation on their relation to their pastor.adverting also to the union of French and English Canadians In the charge, congratulating them on having a man of Mr.Tucker's gifts placed over them, and setting before them the fact that their position—like that of all the Protestant congregations in the province— demanded of them in their individual and church life that they witness to, and be example of the power of gospel truth. The benediction having been pronounced by the Rev.Mr.Tucker, the congregation gladly availed themselves of the opportunity of congratulating their pastor on his ordination and induction to the parish.QUESTIONS & ANSWERS { We tnrfte questions on all possible subjects of general interest.to while the visitors were blanked in each of the five innings except the second, when they obtained one lonely run.The Royals met their waterloo In the sixth and the seventh innings, largely through a glaring error on the part of Weidensaul.Clements, the first mab up ln the sixth hit to Weldensaul, and the latter threw wildly to lirst, the ball golng to the bless ers and allowing Clements to purloin second.Evidently at the suggestion of the pitcher, Wagner played too far infield at a considerable distance from his base and Clements stole third.Leroy fielded Bean's bout cleverly, and threw him out, but Cassady drove a llner for three bags, beyond the reach of Bannon, who made a poor attempt to field it.Casscdy went home on Handford's fly to Bannon, addlug the second run during the Inning. The visitors annexed three more in the seventi.Wagner failed to handle an easy grounder trom Keister, allowing it to pass between his feet.A safe bunt by Grant and Fox- en's hit to Leroy afforded Keister an Opportunity to get hom>, bur he was put ont at the plate by the aval plteher throwing swiftly to Raub.Foxen tad stolen second base, and when Clements drove a two-bagger to centre field, Foxen and Grant crossed the plate.Clements reached home with the third run during the inning and the sixth of the game on a ripping triple by Bean. This ended the acoring so far as Jersey City was concerned, As already stated Montreal won two fn the opening loning. After Raub and Joyce had struck out Bannon took his base on being hit by a pitched ball.Wagner's hit to centre sent Bannon home, and Connor's drive to left enabled Wagner to score. The Royals were consistently blanked until the eighth, although several of them reached bases in the fifth, sixth and seventh lonings.Montreal surprised the fans in the eighth. With Connor and Huelsman out, Welden- saul singled to right.Hartman drew 8 pass on balls, and Leroy's single scored Weidensaul.Raub drove a three-base hit to right centre, allowing Hartman and Leroy home. The spectators began to shout, for with Connor on third and Joyce at bat! they felt reasonably certain of anotber | run. They were disappointed, however, for he sent an easy fly to Clements.Again in the n'nth the Royals looked like winners, but a double play initiated by Bean dashed all hope to the ground, and the game ended six to five. The summary: the leadership of the Eastern league thls afternoon, owing to their inability to locate the curves of Pardee, of Newark, who allowed but three scattered singles. As ar offset Tozier was hit frequently, especi- Ally by Cockman and Foster.Bi ffalo .0000000090—0 3 0 Newark .092042100—8 13 0 Batteries—Buftalo: Tozler and McAllis- ter: Newark: Pardee and Shea.Umpires, I'inergan aod Conaban.Attendance, 1,465.A: Rochester, ed—raln.with Providence, postpon- YESTERDAY'S RESULTS.Jersey City 6, Montreal 6.Newark 8, Buffalo 0.Where they play to-day: Jersey City in Montreal.Faltimore in Toronto.Newark In Buffalo.Providence in Rochester.VASTERN LEAGUE STANDING, an, ost .Jersey City .40 26 .608 Fuffalo .4 28 -600 : Baltimore.3 30 .h38 Newark .oo .32 30 516 Rochester .34 34 BG, = | \\ontreal .COM 8 42 Providence .32 38 ABT Toronto .… .15 46 .292 GOLF Champlon James Braid has written a book on ‘How to Play Golf, which Is pub- | | i lished in Spalding's Athletic Library.Thir Is the first book ever written by Braid on the subject, and 1t is admitted to be one of the most instructive publications on golf that has ever been offered : to the public GOLF.—Champion Braid writes an authoritative book.LACROSSE —Nationals and Shamrocks to practice together.—Toronto not having enough lacrosse. The book contains many full page Illustrations of Brald in action and chapters entitled: Beginners’ Wrong Ideas; war might be averted.he points out] that.once the sword were drawn.there! could no longer he a choice for anv Mos | ‘em.He must fight for the Sultan.re- | gardless of all considerations.Incidentally.it is shown by ancient zeographics that Fgypt has held the Sinai peninsula since the twelfth century.TO STRENGTHEN THE ARMY.London, July 17.—The R.O.corve- spondent of the ‘Express’ says that in view of the rapidly increasing [anaticizin of the natives, Lord Cromer, the Brit ish agent in Fzæynt end his advisers heve prepared clanniit> plans for strengthening the Britizn army in tha country, for increasing the garrisons nt Cairo and Khartoum.and for establishing various military posts in the Soudan. It is also intended to restrict the native press.THE SALISBURY DISASTER WAS DUE TO HIGH SPEED, IS VERDICT OF CORONER'S JURY.Salisbury, England, July 16.—The coroner's inquest into the cause of the wreck of the Plymouth steamer express on July 1.whereby 27 a verdict to-day that the derailment of the train was due to the high speed at which it was running, and which was contrary to the company’s orders. It is added shat drivers of trains not stopping at 3 | NAN] eut.Semple, Truro 47 45 L brightened.{ thought that no examinations had been | Corp.Youhill, Winni ; ; - .per 4 43 “$ ; ; made. The doctors were paid one dol- Pte.Smith, Ottawa 44 as a Oyster Bay.N.Y.July 16.—Negotia- Jar for each examination.Mr.Tilley Sergt.Mortimer, Ottawa + a .tions between Salvador and Guatemala | seemed a little dubious as to doctors giv- ; Piper §.Leask, Tordnto 4 LA ; are being arranged to-day by President |ing a thorough examination for this pe Pioard.rama s: i x Roosevelt and Mr.Bacon, acting Secre- i amount, but the witness explained that Sergt J Huggios To ‘ 5 8° tary of State at Sagamore Hill. The | the society only employed doctors of the : ton ….TR 28 + question not yet settled is whether Hon- highest standing.| Sergt.Whitley, Toronto.42 a1 I duras will become a party to the negotiations at this time.It 1s reasoned here that it would hardly be fair to compel Guatemala tn fac: two for- | eign foes in a peace conference at one time.the setlement arranged states primarily involved.ITALIAN SUPERSTITION LEADS TO A SCHOOL BEING SIEGED BY ANGRY PARENTS.by BE- Rome, July 18.—There have been sev- stition and collective Insanity among rustics of Apaulia, The populists of Cerignola, influenced by a ovclone, solemnly prepared for the en t world. The people of Triggiano 1m- mediately imbibed an untraceable rumor that the Queen was ill.and that the King had ordered that the blood of children be collected to aure her.The parents armed themselwes and be- sieg the local school one morning, demanding that their children be restored to them in-tantly., ties had no option and complied.with the result that the school was temporarily closed.—_————— AVERYS TO EMPLOY AMERICAN ASSISTANTS DECLARE ENGLISHMEN ARE HANDICAPPED BY FOOTBALL MICROBE.London, July 16—Mr.Hopkins says.American-trained | that Americans, or men, will be employed to control Avery & Co.'s new scale factory, which will be | established in Milwaukee. He says that what may be called good regimental com- | manders in the commercial world abound in the United States, and adds: ‘We want men of initiative, with organizing ability. These are scarce in England, although there are legions of amateurs. Our young men are wholly deficient in : Too many of them are handicapped by the football the sense of proportion.microbe.’ ART TREASURES FOR SALE.Vienna, July guandian for the minor who 1s ead of the princely family of ternich-Wineberg, has decid‘d the buildirg of the family's art treasures, including paintings by Durer.Holbein.Rembrandt, Van Dyke Rubens.which are estimated t> be worth 81.600,000.The agent to whom the sale has heen entrusted is now on his way to New York, hoping to interest wealthy Americans.the MURDER AND SUICIDE.New York, July 16.—Adam Scheuig, 30 years old, employed at a butcher's shop in East 149th street, to-day shot | and fataly wounded Miss Louise Kar- cher, diughter of his employer.and seriously wounded the girls ther.and committed suicide by cutting hic throat with a butcher knife. The supposed motive for the shooting was the reiecting of Scheuig’s attentions to Miss Karcher by th young woman and her parents.———p>—— FIRE RECORD.Boston, July 16 —Faneui!
