rendered a higher speed possible, and yesterday the company established a new long distanee speed record for western lines, by making a run of 399 2-10 miles in eight hours dat, including stops.The train which made this record was a special carrying Sir William Van Horne, William Whyte and C.J.Bury, and consisted of a baggage car and the private cars Saskatchewan and Manitoba.The run was between Winnipeg and Moosejaw, and the stops included water stops, a change of engines at Brandon and layover for all east-bound passenger trains.This means that an average speed of more than fifty miles an bottom up.Ara Willis, a girl of seven years, started to swim in the shore for assistance, but was clutched by a lady who was struggling in the water and was almost pulled under, but with great presence of mind she struck the lady in the face and was able to release herself, calling back to the party that she was safe and would get assistance.In the meantime Frank Moseley, of Parry Sound,
