National Government, but the politicians want a party government, and it looks like a win for the politicians. If the monied interests in Canada would call for a show down they might force the issue, but apparently tney are determined to take no definite nor drastic steps as were taken to bring about the formation of a National Government in Great Britain. No one expects that should the Liberals win that they will accomplish any more than the Conservatives have done. They will have the railway problem to settle, and at the end of five years if it does not ruin the credit of Canada it will remain unsettled. All the problems connected with relief and unemployment will still be as far from solution as they are today. To put one party out and to put another in will simply and absolutely accomplish nothing.: Neither party so far has done much by way of political propaganda. The Liberals have been confident that depression and old Father Time were on their side.and they have been doing very little. In 1930 the Conservatives were a fighting force, well equipped, led by stategists, and when the final attack was made their political opponents were easily put to flight. The situation now, so far as they are concerned is so different as to be almost unbelievable. With the dissolutien in sight, and an appeal to to the country only two or three months ahead they do not know who their leader will be.From a party standpoint, conditions might be better, much better, they could scarcely be much worse.EE Keep a COOL KITCHEN WHAT could be simpler on a hot morning than getting a on behalf of the Mills | concluded with a prayer that his firm would continue to merit the confidence which had been placed in it and | “Its officials, and to maintain a great ! "consideration for their employees and thelr adopted town and country. He | then extolled the virtues of the Hun- tingdon mayor and presented him with the trophy which Windsor Mills had donated for the Town Hockey League.Hearty cheers were given “Dad,” the elder Mr.Kluger, when he rose to speak. In a minute review of his family life “Dad” referred in glowing tribute Lo his life-long partner and loud applause greeted Mrs.Kluger | when she acknowledged the tribute.ln his usual philosophical manner Mr.Kluger spoke of the baliquet as an engagement party, and expressed i thie hope that the golden anniversary 'of Huntingdon and Windsor Silk Mills would be as happy and success- fui as his personal one had been.Rev.J.B.Maclean, called upon to propose the toast to the Press, mentioned appreciation of the clergy having been asked to attend the banquet. He spoke in glowing terms of the local press, the Huntingdon Gleaner, tracing its foundation and the success of its first editor.the late Robert Sellar.and of the power and wide influence of his editorial writings. He also mentioned the succeeding editors the late Leslie Sellar, Watson Sellar.now Comptroller of the Canadian Treasury, and its present editor Adam L.Sellar.Dr.Maclean recalled the fact that a year ago the Huntingdon Gleaner had won the Pearce Editorial Trophy, Mr.Sellar having been named President of the Canadian Weekly Newspapers’ Association.and more recently the Gleaner having been chosen on Casey's All-American Eleven, emblematic of one of the best eleven weekly newspapers on the North American continent. He expressed his pleasure at Mr.Sellar’s having been nonoured with the King's Jubilee Medal, and made official presentation of the token. He also pinned the King's Medals on Dr.J.C.Moore.M.P., and Mr.M.B.Fisher, M.L.A.In Mr, Sellars response to the toast Lo the press after thanking Dr.Maclean for his kind remarks he referred to the part which the Board of Trade had played in Huntingdon's progress and touched oi some of its accomplishments.Rev.Father Pigeon remarked that the presence of the four clergymen was a sigh of the utterance of the blessing of God on the new Silk Mills.Continuing.he mentioned his pleasure at attending the banquet.and spoke of having been very favour- aoly impressed with the religious convictions of the new officials.Father Pigeon said that he had urged co-operation and honest work with the new industry by members of his congregation and would be pleased to help in any movement for the progress of the town and the betterment of its citizens. He was glad, he said, that mill officials intimated such consideration and fair treatment for their employees as would allow married men to bring up their families in proper manner. He extended personal thanks for the co-operation given him in his desire for observance of Holy Days.and commended Huntingdon citizens for their great respect to the Lord's Day.Fraser Keith of the Shawinigan Water and Power Company complimented the Gleaner on its fine recent achievements. He said that he was always interested in Huntingdon and hoped that the relationship between the Windsor Silk Mills and the town would always be a happy one and that the beginning of this relationship would be the beginning of a long era of prosperity for this district.Mr.Bowman of the Borden Company.who came from New York City tor the occasion said that he always found it most pleasant working with the Board of Trade and the Shawinigan Company and he joined his good wishes to the others in wishing the new industry a bright future inn Hun- tingdon.Ben Kluger expressed his appreciation to the Board of Trade for their fine official gesture of welcome and sald that although he was a stranger he had tried ‘as much as one human being can get into another human being's heart” to get into the hearts of the people in Huntingdon.Mr.Kluger had originally intena- ed to give an address about the manufacture of silk but due to the lateness of the hour mentioned just a few additional facts to what Mr.Carr had already said.He pointed out that a silk fibre was stronger than a steel wire of equal diameter.and also said that the silk made in the local plant was of the very best variety and that each garment was truly and entirely made of real silk.He added the thought that the Windsor Mill Company would do its share in bringing about a rosy future and a satisfying relationship between the town and the Mill.Mr.Joseph Horovitz emphatically denied.as previous speakers had jokingly declared, that this was perhaps only a small one-horse town and he felt that unstinted credit should go to those who had worked so hard to bring such a large industry into such & small town.He pointed out also the fitness of the Kluger family to operate successfully so large an undertaking and mentioned that he and his brother had been associated for the last twenty-six years with the silk industry in Canada while the Kluger family had been oustanding in the silk manufacturing business in the United States for the past eighteen years.Mr.Jacob Horovitz echoed his brother's sentiments and added his thanks to the Board of Trade and the Town Fathers for the warm welcome which they had given him and his associates.Rev.W.S.Hatcher acknowledged a previous comparison between the silk and dairying industries and also introduced a comparison between the silk industry and his own vocation. He sald the former wove cloth, while the latter wove character—two neces- sities for hand to mouth having to spend all they make to keep living.and then the third unfortunate group who have neither means nor the opportunity of work to provide that means and this class, unhappily is made ub largely of young people.Con- cernimg this third group Mr.Hatcher said that it was a distinct source of joy for him to look out his rectory window and see the young people.newly graduated from school.going past morning and evening to their work in the Mill. For such a thing, he felt.we should be thankful, because the young people were being given the opportunity to make an honest and decent living and growing up to be good citizens of a good country.Morris Hunter, on behalf of the Rink Association.put in a plea for support from the Board of Trade and the people of Huntingdon. He said he felt that as well as the bowling green and other sport activities the young people needed help in clearing the debt off the skating rink.Mr.J.Tabackman, a prospective local industrialist, spoke and hoped that some day.in the near future.he would find his way clear to locate a branch of his firm in this town.W.S.Brown brought the meeting to a close by reading congratulatory telegrams from the
