thunderstorm struck the 12,000 volt high-low transformer at Chateauguay Regional High School, knocked it out of operation and started a fire which caused considerable smoke damage in the school.Maintenance Supervisor Bob Furey estimated transformer replacement costs at $20,000 to $25,000.There was no immediate estimate of smoke damage costs.An immediate result was that the large Allaire have created an Olympic bowling tournament for Quillorama.The tourney will begin on Friday, August 13 at 7:30 p.m.when Greek and Olympic flags are raised in Prince Arthur Park.After a presentation in Greek, a symbolic Olympic flame will be carried through the streets.At 10:30 p.m.the first of the bowlers will begin and plans call for the second group of players to take to the lanes this winter and being revived by a coordinated community effort, the Huntingdon municipal pool has continued to draw loyal and dedicated participation and support from the community at large.Registrations for swimming lessons this summer numbered more than 70, Aqua fun and Aqua santé for women hosted 80 persons and more than 900 guests visited the pool since its June 24 opening.In addition to the not inconsiderable improvements made to the pool and pool house facility, shade umbrellas, a pool slide and floating mats were purchased for the pool from general fund raising and profits made at the June 24 opening.Support from local businesses and patrons such as Folia Industries and the Johanne McGerrigle family have provided much needed pool signage and picnic tables.Volunteer coordinators Claudie Remillard and Katherine Hackett say there is more work to be done.The next project, the repair of the wading pool, is under consideration.Meanwhile, fundraising Suroit de Valleyfield de fermer l\u2019accès à son unité d\u2019urgence psychiatrique jusqu\u2019au 6 septembre prochain en raison d\u2019une pénurie d\u2019infirmières est plutôt mal accueillie par les utilisateurs et des intervenants en santé mentale du Suroît.Des représentants d\u2019un groupe régional des personnes utilisatrices des services en santé mentale s\u2019en prennent à cette mesure prise par les dirigeants de l\u2019institution, dévoilée par un reportage du réseau TVA a la fin juillet.Ils n\u2019acceptent surtout pas les usagers de cette unité soient pénalisés par cette fermeture.«Ici à Valleyfield, on ferme des lits de court séjour en psychiatrie pour désengorger l\u2019urgence en été.Nous croyons fortement que la suspension de ce service compromet la qualité des soins.Nous comprenons que la vision de lits vacants dans une urgence bondée peut sembler tentante.On dira que l\u2019on ne peut accorder le luxe d\u2019une salle de repos à des patients pour leur
