prosecution of the war. There was never any the outcome, although the advertising campaign conducted by the Republicans which apparently won the support of nearly every newspaper and magazine of ave a false impression of a .O.P.All the smoke raised by the heat of battle confused many observers, although at this distance, in Canada, we had a clearer view of the issues and Canadians generally ‘predicted a substantial Roosevelt victory. In last week's issue of The Monitor, we called for Mr.Roosevelt to win on far as West- at home, and real doubt of consequence, swing to the pleted aeroplane are even more varied and incongruous.Business Week, of New York, reveals a list of the seventy basic raw materials, parts and accessories that go into the Flying Fortresses, those American super-bombers, which may be cruising over Germany before long. The list begins at abrasives and ends at zinc, and all the way through the alphabet are such ingredients as casein, fish oil, lampblack, molybdenum, peanut oil, sponges, tin, twine and wool, It was no idle curiosity which prompted Business Week to find out what big bombers are made of.Though the Flying Fortresses are manufactured in the Boeing plant at Seattle, Washington, every one of the 48 states contributes some material to the com- flying instruments, grounds: ‘If political values are weighed by the American people as Canadians weigh them, Mr.Roosevelt will win by a colossal majority. The state of the world being what it is, and Mr.Roosevelt being what he is, it is difficult to concede Mr.Willkie any chance whatever.” The entire history of Anglo- Saxon nations has been a history of the rise of the common man.Mr, Roosevelt is the champion of the common man, and it was inconceivable that the common man would turn him down, even in the face of the terrific high pressure salesmanship conducted by his opponents.Incidentally, the result emphasizes the fact that good-will cannot be bought. In Canada, the Democratic victory will be doubly hailed, for a Republican win would have abrogated the trade treaties and prejudiced the ‘good neighbour’ relations now existing between the nations of the British Commonwealth and the United States at a time when friendship is vitally necessary, Arizona, a state with comparatively little industrial development, supplies silver, copper, molybdenum,
