Your Committee recommends that a permit be issued to the British American Oil Company to erect a service station building on Lot 215-118 at the southwest corner of Victoria Avenue and Western Avenue, at a height less than 25', subject to the plans being approved by the City Engineer and the Architeqtiral Commission. On the motion of Alderman Campbell seconded by Alderman Panet-Raymond this recommendation was unanimously adopted.Letter of June 13th 1950 was submitted from the Department of Municipal Affairs advising that the Minister of Municipal Affairs after having taken into consideration By-law No.571 concerning th Police and Firemen’s Pension Fund, is of the opinion that there is no ne@ssity for him to recommend its disallowal.Alderman Pemberton submitted recommendations of the Genera Committee as follows:-— ~ Your Committee recommends that payment of the following A.- counts, Payrolls, Salanies and Allowances for the month of May 1950 be authorized and confirmed: - - .Payrolls, List of Salaries & Accounts Allowances Total Finance .$ 25,557.24 $ 5,648.23 Roads .19,883.83 26,739.84 Light and Power 46,906.53 10,218.61 Police .3,876.48 10,375.59 Fire 200000020000 19,421.02 10,880.05 Health .191.94 1,249.96 Parks .2,879.83 10,750.56 Victoria Hall .748.74 1,968.38 Public Welfare .93.73 414.16 “A" Salaries .7,879.16 Pensions '.1,485.96 - .$119, 564,34 $87,590.50 $207.144.84 On the motion of Alderman Pemberton seconded by Alderman ‘(Continued on Page 2) Annual Carnival Helps Maintain Boys’ Clubhouse + Westmount Rotary Club is to be congratulated and commended on the tremendous’ energy and enthusiasm which the members year after year put into the work of organizing and running the carnival held in Westmount Park. This week's fair is the 19th annual event to be staged by the club.During that time many charities have proceeds raised at the carnival This year most of the takings Denefitted from the will be earmarked for the equipment of the now nearly completed Unity Boys’ Clubhouse, on lower Greene avenue.* All Volunteers The success of the carnival each year has been made possible through the fact that all who take part volunteer their services.Westmount Rotarians and their friends from a small beginning have built up the carnival until it is now looked forward to by residents as a must on their list of engagements. That men of affairs take time out from their business to run the carnival and to do the many chores necessary for the smooth running of the fair is a wonderful tribute to the public spirit which accuates the Rotarians. The clubhouse on Greene avenue was very “badly needed and it will pay off in rich dividends by help-4 ing to create better citizens through the training and recreation which the boys will receive there.>= Ha To Donald Ross and his committee we take our hats off for a grand job well done.Westm't Fire [ Department Reports Quiet Month of May A report from the WeStmount Fire Department and authorized by the City Council this week, announced that 48 calls were made during May.Of the 48, 13 were false alarms, three were for fires in dwellings, eight grass fires, one gas fumes and 19 miscellaneous calls.hand, D A .Houlds- Corner necessary in former years, those attending or represented at the camps: -— Included are: — (Scout Camp) St.Matthias in Fort Chesterfield under R.G.Sims; Patenaude, K.C., demanding the quashing of a seizure made by Gaston Gagnier, architect, upon all assets that Ale fred Leduc, Jr., merchant, of Westmount, owns in E.A.Le- duc Ltd, 200 Greene Avenue, Westmount, of which corporation Alfred Leduc is president. The seizure was made pending judgment in an action in which Gagnier is suing Alfred Leduc, Jr.foi an alleged debt of $18,075.Gagnier sought to justify the seizure by alleging that Leduc was about ‘to fraudulently withdraw his assets from the company, with a view of depriving Gagnier of legal recourse against Leduc.’ Mr.Justice Loranger said it was not sufficient to make the allegation, the accusation must be proved, and there was not the slightest evidence of fraudulent intention on the part of Leduc.Consequently, His Lordship concluded, the seizure must be quashed, with costs against Gag- nier.‘Y’ Notes Young Adult Séction Well, at last, summer is here and with it comes all of the activities so dear to
