it's live and let live.They care little that much the same group, dropping one or two and adding one or two from time to time, goes on running “their” association year after year.As such this compact nominates its slate for mayor and aldermen each time the City charter says elections are due.Rarely is the slate opposed.Exercised or not, control of City affairs in effect rests with the controlling group of the association.The system naturally perpetuates the ill-begot- ten custom of barring official discussion of the City's business from the citizens’ ears — by the artful dodge of taking virtually all Council discussion behind the committee room's closed doors.Some don't like it.Opposition to this state of affairs is growing.The Examiner learns that serious citizens will be heard and felt at next Thursday's meeting, All such persons may not be like-minded.But their common purpose should be to see that any citizen may exercise his right to be heard and to “hear, in association and in Council.If you care, turn out at .Victoria Hall next Thursday evening.Revue by Fossils recalls achievement HE annual Fossils Revue, currently being offered, calls to mind the excellent work of this small but exceedingly effective service organization.Organized in the days < of the depression with a handful of young West Enders as its core, the Fossils suspended for a period while the members were in the armed service, but when the Second World War was won, those who returned took up the task of raising funds for underprivileged boys anew, and a magnificent job has been done down the years.The Fossils Show has become an institution and the excellence of its annual offering, - together with the spirit behind it and the purpose to which the revenue is dedicated has won for it one of the most faithful audiences in the world.While doing a big job for the underprivileged, the Fossils have also done something for themselves.There is a spirit of cameraderie, a closely- knit bond of fellowship among its members that is seldom seen in any organization, no matter in what field of endeavour.Standing shoulder-to- shoulder in an unobtrusive way, Fossils have demonstrated that they give to each other the extra strength of purpose sometimes required to overcome the battles of life.Members of the group are the better for this association.It is a natural corollary of community service work, and is to be seen in its most practical application in the Fossils Club if one can see sufficiently beneath the surface of bonhommerie.The show and the work of the organization is to be most highly commended.fam THE EXAMINER Examiner profile;
